god knows whats fuckin canon anymore
who gives a shit
disneys a piece of shit for going "The story we made is the one we are using, those years and years of developed lore are nothing now."

Attempting to cater to every last bit of ridiculous, long-winded, outdated canon has ruined many great stories.

Especially when major pieces of that canon were established decades ago by movies that were focused on being successful films more than setting up sustainable long-term lore, and much of the rest of that lore was written after the fact to explain the movies instead of being considered during production.

Star Wars' canon has been a mess since long before Disney got their hands on it. And that's not a surprise, when you're trying to tie together DECADES of movies and other media into a cohesive story. I'm not saying that Disney succeeded in making a great movie, but 'fuck it, let's just focus on making the movie' was an appropriate response to the sprawling, tangled wreck of lore surrounding the series.

Not to mention the really stupid parts of EU, like having Palpatine resurrected 3 times...

Well the alternative was to have an impenetrable mass of canon to work through and be consistent with, as well as the restrictions those impose. If they didn't do it like this you'd have fans whining about how the movie contradicts other stuff.

That's not the point of the story. I'd bet you anything a horse never walked into a bar and ordered something, but we accept the setup because its a joke. Not every story is supposed to be true.

I think the best way to avoid conflict here is to ensure that jokes like this stay in the third person. The joke teller inserted himself into a false story, which is fine for stand-up comics but iffy for one liners. Saying, "a guy walks into a library..." may have given better results. But hey, that's just my take.

A joke jokingly posted by a joker was taken seriously by another joker who then posted a joke jokingly joking about a joke which then was perceived by another joker who took the joke that was posted in a jokingly manner as another serious joke yet he does not jokingly joke about how the joke is just a joke and the joker shouldn't be serious about the joke that was jokingly posted as a joke.
