To me, it does actually, i can sit through pretty bad game play (in moderation) for a fantastic story, and intense, and in-depth lore. Final Fantasy: Crisis Core had a fantastic story, and the character development, made me grow close to the main character. In the end it is my favorite game for those elements, because it wasn't just some game i'm playing and putting down, it was a story i could immerse myself into.

I actually like a large variety of games, but the one common factor has to be the Story line, and character development in the game. Mario definitely lacks both of those qualities. I can understand why many people would like the series of games, but in my opinion it's to childish in a sense, because they have to make it marketable to younger audiences.

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, but having a good storyline doesn't make it a good game. The reason mario doesn't have a storyline isn't because they want to market it to children. It's because mario focuses more on elements of gameplay than it does storyline. Also the game is japanese in origin. They tend to focus more on gameplay in general. It's a competetive thing.
