So what, humanity fast forwards in the course of 2 centuries, and learns more than it did in the last 2000 years, with our understanding of the universe around us expanding every day, and you're all butthurt because things slowed down in the past 50 years?

Okay, what about non-criminal NAMBLA members? Should they be allowed into a large gathering of children alone? They aren't convicted criminals so you won't discriminate right?
#18 - anon (06/07/2015) [-]
Nope, you don't get to decide when discrimination is discrimination. Either it's not okay ever or it's okay sometimes depending on circumstances.
#33 - nytor (06/07/2015) [-]
I find myself linking to fucking Merriam-Webster way too much on this damn site. Here's their definition of discrimination.
"the practice of unfairly treating a person or group of people differently from other people or groups of people"
Unfairly is the keyword here. There's a lot of subjectivity here, but it does clear things up a bit. I don't think it's unreasonable to say that phoenixactual was correct- after all, treating criminals differently is hardly unfair. They've previously proven that they are unwilling to abide by laws and therefore need to be treated differently. This is different from Christians, Muslims, blacks, whites, or other groups that are occasionally/regularly discriminated against in some way. Those groups do contain some bad people, yes, and even some that do bad things in the name of their group, but being a member of the group doesn't mandate anything bad about them. Yes, some criminals manage to reform, but there is clear prior precedent of their misbehavior. That's why they can be considered a part of the group "criminals".

I know it's hard, but try to think before you type....

Where do you think a homeless person can legally sleep inside of a large wooden box? Seriously. Do you think it's legal to park that in the street? (It isn't). It's not legal on the sidewalk. It's not safe (or legal) in an ally.

Name a city in the US and I'll tell you where the homeless shelters are. They are already facilities where they *can* go to find shelter. And if they're actually going to sleep on the streets, for whatever reason, a light-weight and transportable tent is a million times better than a wooden house they can't carry with them or take on a bus or take on a train.

It's a terrible idea. It's a *nice* idea, but it's stupid. It's cute that a CHILD thought it was a good idea, it's *sad* that you think it's a good idea.

Wal-mart parking lots would accept it. Or any private property.

I see where you're coming from but it said that these little houses were going to a tent city where it is legal to have them. The city itself is opening the tent city for the homeless and, though there are places for homeless to get shelter, there is rarely enough space nor can they stay more than a few days at these places. I grew up around this area of Washington so I can say first hand about how bad out homeless population is. You say it has no heat or electricity, but a shelter is a shelter and its a hell of a lot better than living in a tent. The girl was cutting insulation for the houses, so they will be much warmer and more dry than a tent.

Is it practical to try and make thousands of these? No, but what ever is made is going to be much better than sleeping on a box or in a shitty tent. It rains like a mother fucker in Washington, a tent will not last long at all, nor will it be warm.

It's 'planned' to go into a Tent City, sure. But you know what they already have in Tent Cities.....TENTS! Lots of tents. You can buy a four season tent for $70 and each of her wooden houses cost $300! And take forever to build. And, unlike a tent, you can't fold it up.

You say that these houses will be 'much warmer and more dry' than a tent, but I disagree. They tents made for all weather conditions and you can ABSOLUTELY camp in Washington climates in a tent. Without heat, the insulation isn't going to do very much, and I dunno if it's not finished or what - but for $300 you can't afford any windows. It looks like a plastic tarp over two square holes for windows. A tent will be much warmer than that.

And if they're all going to the same place, it's much more effective (in terms of insulation/energy and in building materials) to build a single large structure with many divisions. You know - like an apartment building verse building a row of houses. 10 of these dog houses will cost $3,000 dollars - but you could build one structure with space for 10 people for far, far, less than $3,000 in materials.

Again, it's totally cool that the little girl wants to help - but it's just not a good way to do it.

It will be less effective than a $70 tent. And have a lot of disadvantages. Also, all of the other Tent Cities in Washington relocate. So every time they do, they'll have to pay to ship these heavy wooden dog houses instead of light plastic tents.

Q: How long does a typical Tent City camp stay at one location?

A: A Tent City camp usually stays at one location for about 90 days. A few additional days may be needed as the camp prepares to move to its next location.

I know people are butt-hurt about this, but I'm right.

If you pay 70$ for an all season tent, it will not keep the elements out. Ifyou pay 300$ for a tent (the price of her hoboxes), then it will for a while, until the constant use fucks its shit. I would know, I use tents a LOT. if you think a tent is warmer and better protection than this, then you are dilusional or never used a tent for prolonged periods. Either way, git gud scrub.
