I'm an atheist.

Anti-theists are all fedora tipping neckbeards.
User avatar

That was directly anti-religious fedoraing, though.
Not, "I think God is fake", but "Religion is stupid and greedy"

I disagree.

I am an extremely deeply religious person and I thoroughly agree with the thread OP. BUT my religion does not:

-pay the clergy AT ALL
-take a collection (donations accepted, not asked for)
-support or give money to political figures or parties (complete political neutrality)

These things make major religions/churches inherently business oriented. If you are paid to preach, you are in direct opposition to what Jesus taught (Matthew 10:8). Supporting politics (especially for monetary or political power gain) is as well (John 15:17-21). It's unfair to say that his comment wasanti-religious. I am religious and I agree. I think the Catholic Church is disgusting. I think most "Super Churches" like Saddleback Church are disgusting. I think Mars Hill Church and it's satellites are disgusting. I think the guy with the Crystal Cathedral is disgusting. Jesus very literally ran away from people trying to make him king (John 6:15) and had almost no earthly possessions (Matthew 8:20).

How can they say they are doing "Jesus' work?" I guarantee you, if you told them to do it for free, they'd quit. That makes it a business. On the whole (like OP said "most"), religion IS stupid and greedy.

If you believe in things for which there is no evidence is that not stupid?
#250 - anon (09/27/2014) [-]
It is, and they start to get it on concious logical level. But religion is so deeply entrenched in their mentality they have to at least make fun of atheism with fedora thing.

Think of it as safety pressure valve. "I've been lied to whole my life but hey, the guy that makes me realise that is a neckbeard and wears stupid hat".
User avatar
#252 - popeflatus (09/27/2014) [-]
Yes, I understand that, but as you also seem to understand that is a childish response. Teaching people about science, history and logic is the best way to further our species and remove this nonsense from our lives. It will take time, but I can handle the fedora quips I don't even own a fucking fedora and will continue, as many others are doing, to fight against the lies of religion.

1. Church and Religion are not the same thing
2. Churches do fantastic charity work, and religious people tend to donate to charity more than non-religious ones philanthropy.com/article/Religious-Americans-Give-More/143273/
3. What religion are you that you think yourself inherently superior to other.
#66 - anon (09/26/2014) [-]
Hey pentedattilo, I'm the guy who made that comment. And I seriously wanted to troll, to get red thumbs. I expected people to think like you, but sadly, this is at a 9gag level.

Atheism is fine, thinking that most religions are abusive businesses is ridiculous.

Atheism - Good
Anti-theism - neckbeard faggot
#260 - cannibalvegan (09/27/2014) [-]
Couldn't have said it better myself, bro.

More Atheists shove their beliefs down my throat than religious people, so it's kind of ironic. I'm not very religious myself (Agnostic-ish), but I do find religion fascinating and if someone is bashing it I sometimes defend it and then I'm called a "Theist retard" or something like that.

#296 - shadowgandalf (09/27/2014) [-]
What belief?
The very meaning of Atheist, is "A lack of belief in a god".

If you don't belive in Odin, as the father of all gods, including the christian god, then you are an Atheist toward Odin.
#299 - cannibalvegan (09/27/2014) [-]
The belief that there is no god.
#302 - shadowgandalf (09/27/2014) [-]
Alot of atheist are more than willing to belive in gods, especially because of the bonus of an afterlife(immortality).

The problem is, that we can't just accept peoples words for it. You have to convince us, and for that, you need evidence to support your claim.
User avatar
#303 - cannibalvegan (09/27/2014) [-]
In other words: The belief that there is no god.
#304 - shadowgandalf (09/27/2014) [-]
A belief means that you fucking belive something!
A lack of belief means, that you don't fucking belive it... >_<

#300 - shadowgandalf (09/27/2014) [-]
You seem to misunderstand.
Atheists do not belive there is no god.
We fail to belive your claim that there is.
#285 - anon (09/27/2014) [-]
You just don't know what agnostic means, go educate yourself.

You're either gnostic atheist, agnostic atheist, gnostic theist or agnostic theist, but agnostic doesn't just have a category of its own between atheism and theism.
User avatar
#164 - popeflatus (09/27/2014) [-]
How is pro-theism, as opposed to 'anti-theism' non 'faggot'?
#321 - anon (09/27/2014) [-]
Protheism is the belief in a god
Antitheism is not just no belief in God (atheism), it is direct opposition to religions. Religion does not oppose no belief in God (anymore).
#57 - anon (09/26/2014) [-]
Most religions are abusive businesses. It's the spiritual aspect behind the religion that is good. However, when a religion grows too big they forget their spiritual roots and become materialistic.

So I'm a lesser human being for choosing not to believe in a god?
User avatar

Of course not! Any one who suggests that is truly indoctrinated beyond reason.
User avatar
#68 - bloodredspark (09/26/2014) [-]

Anti-theism isn't atheism. Anti-theism is basically saying that "religion is evil, and it's bad to believe in a God."

But, I'm guessing if you're part of Anti-theism, you believe it makes you a lesser human being for believing in one.
#253 - macbookfan (09/27/2014) [-]
But it fucking is.
At least if we start with just the abrahamic religions - those are oppressive as fuck!

I don't think less of people, i think less of religion.
If you have a religion, i think that's a stupid move, but you can still be a cool/smart/whatever person.
User avatar
#325 - bloodredspark (09/28/2014) [-]
I never got why it's okay to force your lack of religion, and preach about how bad religion is, but whenever somebody states something about religion in a good manner, it's normally bad.

Not talking about this in particular, but the general mindset.
#334 - macbookfan (09/30/2014) [-]
Well religion does its part of dumbing us down in this day and age, and that alone is bad if you ask me.

It usually creates this us/them mentality, "justifies" hate, + it gets into its country's politics.

Feel free to practice your own religion, but organised religion is simply shit.
Your religion doesn't suck. Your church and the people who run your religion most likely does.
User avatar
#335 - bloodredspark (09/30/2014) [-]
Anti-theism as well dumbs a good deal of the population down. It literally only /is/ hate for religion, which tries it's best to justify in saying that "well, religion has done (x) so it's obvious all religion is evil".

No, saying "religion does this, but anti-theism doesn't!" is pretty silly.
User avatar
#171 - popeflatus (09/27/2014) [-]
People who believe in religions are not lesser human beings but they are wrong. Like a person who believes the world is flat is not a lesser person but are totally wrong.
User avatar
#258 - anonymoose (09/27/2014) [-]
But the earth has been proven to be round. Literally nothing in science to date has disproved the existence of a God.
User avatar
#266 - popeflatus (09/27/2014) [-]
You are shifting the burden of proof here. You cannot prove a negative. But the burden of proof lies with the people that claim that there is a god. That is a positive claim that needs evidence to support it. There is no evidence for this claim yet the counter evidence that science has provided show that the claims made by religion are false.

We know that there was no Garden of Eden or global flood, we know there was no exodus of Israelites from Egypt and we have no evince to support the miraculous claims of Jesus in the bible.

When claims are made that have to be supported with evidence, and if they are not then they can be dismissed.
User avatar
#268 - anonymoose (09/27/2014) [-]
Yes, the burden of proof lies on the people making the claim, but that's irrelevant here, given the context of what we're talking about.

You outright stated that religions ARE wrong, which implies proof they are wrong. All I said was that was a false statement as it hasn't been proven.
User avatar
#271 - popeflatus (09/27/2014) [-]
You said that the statement hasn't been proven, and you are right. You can't prove a negative. I did claim religions are wrong. They are false. They make many claims that have been completely been debunked by science and history and so it is safe to conclude that they are irrevocably false.
User avatar
#272 - anonymoose (09/27/2014) [-]
So you're telling me every single religion ever made has been debunked? A very bold claim.

P.S. You can disprove a negative. I can prove via induction that there is no such thing as a natural number less than 1.
User avatar
#275 - popeflatus (09/27/2014) [-]
Every religion that makes positive claims has never been able to demonstrate their case. So yes, they have all been debunked.

If you make claims with no proof then they are 'naturally' debunked.

>does zero count? Numbers are different because they are logically constructed entities and are not claims made about phenomena in the universe.
#219 - anon (09/27/2014) [-]
The world was scientifically and completely proven to be round and not flat. Religion is based off faith, not science. The comparison isn't quite fair. Plenty of people believe in science and choose a religion of faith.
User avatar
#222 - popeflatus (09/27/2014) [-]
Yes, but faith still means that you believe in something that has no evidence to support it. There are about 100 million or so people in the US that think the world is only 6000-10,000 years old yet that has been proven wrong by science: the actual age of the planet is about 4.6 billion years old.
