There's a reason why there is a stereotype of soldiers stealing boots, but I don't quite feel like carrying on a useless conversation, so before one of us makes this heated I'll just say have a good day sir or madam.

There was loot, sometimes there were those that took armour, so, there would be group leaders that would probably keep reserves, they wouldn't like their soldiers having shit for armour or weapons now would they? sure it's not on the whole military scale but there were no armies that would frown upon soldiers passing loot to each other.

I don't know about that whole "loot" thing, most of the time armies just wandered around on campaign and barely did any battles or sieges so why would you want some more gear that is probably worse than your own. Unless your troop was going by a nearby town and you get ambushed or whatever then you would probably pick that stuff up and sell it, but no I don't think armies in a general sense ever collected loot from the battles, and plus if their stuff was being worn out the would take it to the blacksmith who would be traveling with you and for a fee he would repair it to the best of his abilities.

But for armies that would give you armour if you had none, then they would give you the cheapest stuff if it wasn't a dead mans.

What? No armies never gave the soldiers their armor, they would always have to buy their own and even weapons, the army told them what they had to get though and they would get it

I was speaking of more of run of the mill, typical soldiers mail, yeah there is articulated, tailored chailmail, but if you are making it for a army you aren't going to tailor it to everyone now would you?
User avatar #236 - pengasuar (02/02/2014) [-]
Same goes for plate armor in that point, but I was referring to the smaller types and the variation in the size of the mail, in another video he said that chain mail cost a person what it would to buy a house, I think they would probably take the time to get it tailored just to be sure
