wait I thought he got his head blown off by uncle owen with a blaster, at least in the old expanded universe
Old version, yes. But when Disney bought the rights they un-canoned everything besides the movies, Clone Wars, and the Old Republic game (but even that I'm not 100% sure on). Then everything else that came out after the purchase was considered canon besides anything labeled as "Legends".
As Star Wars Rebels came out under Disney's watchful eye, it's canon along with everything in it. Unfortunately that also means the helicopter lightsaber is a real thing.
my one gripe was that his final episode wasn't long enough
It's not that it wasn't long enough, it's that it focuses on fucking Ezra for 20 minutes instead of Maul. Why? FUck if I know. THe episode easily would've been 100 times better if it focused exclusively on Maul until the very end. "But it's a show about Ezra, so it wouldn't be a good idea." BULLSHIT!!! One of my favorite shows is Avatar: The Last Airbender, and season 2's arguably best episode was an episode that focused exclusively on Zuko, one of the series' antagonists. The writers were just being fucking lazy.
True. Personally, I've found Rebels is getting rather disappointing...Season 1 was pretty neat, Season 2 was filler with a great finale. Season 3 was literally the first and last episodes that had any significance to the story, and the middle was just a building to the finale.
...which was extremely underwhelming with Thrawn.
I'm being picky because as a show it's great, but compared to Clone Wars it's rather mild.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I can't fucking stand Rebels. Especially when you compare it to The Clone Wars
the "The" in the title is important due to two series being about the Clone Wars era.
. TCW had its problems
especially if you look at Season 1 on its own.
, but when it was under threat of cancellation, it set out to tell a dark and mature story that resonated with fans. Sure, it had stupid ideas
why the fuck did we five episodes about fucking Padawans when only one was enough?
, but when shit happened, shit really happened. Rebels, for the most part, feels more like they're more concerned with selling toys than telling a story. Not to mention, the constant callbacks to old events/canon but doing nothing with them is fucking annoying. So you brought Thrawn back into canon. DO SOMETHING WITH HIM!!! This was a character that was a major threat to the New Republic, and the galaxy as a whole. We had an entire TRILOGY of books showing this. So why is he doing something that's relatively minor by comparison? Not to mention, Disney can't make up their fucking minds about the canon. Take the Temple guards for example. Originally, they were just failed Younglings that didn't quite cut it to become Padawans. Then Disney changed it saying, "no. These are full fledged Jedi. They're just taking a shift as a guard for the day/week." Okay fine. Then they turn right around and explain the High Inquisitor's backstory saying, "Oh, he's a former temple guard." You mean he's a Jedi right? "no. he's a Temple Guard." Make up your fucking mind.
Fuck Disney and their treatment of this franchise. It took 20+ years of EU lore to fuck things up. Disney did it in five.
I fully agree, bro.
Rebels is all over the place, and hearing it'll end with this last season gives me both relief and distress. Distress because this is going to be Disney's version of the origins of the Rebellion, which seems rather clean, kid friendly and insignificant, giving no real motivation why the Empire should be defeated...they seem like a regular government to me. I feel relief, because I hope their next show or project can prove to be more impressive...but I'm not holding my breath.
This dude explains all my gripes perfectly.
