Octillery is actually pretty powerful, has decent bulk, but is really slow, slower than its pre-evolution
Floatzel is as powerful physically, but a lot less bulky and more than 2x as fast
You dont have access to Gallade/Gardevoir during the playthrough without trading, so the best psychic type available is Kadabra, or Medicham, but he only learns his best move, Zen Headbutt, from his father

Catch a Gastly after the 2nd gym and after you get cut, get a Staravia/Starly for #3, use Roselia for #4, Gastly/Haunter will be good for #5, Infernape should work most of #6 and #7, and get a Geodude up to Golem for #8

Staraptor is really good as an offensive flying type, otherwise Drifblim has tons of HP, and Honchrow is a bit stronger but has a bit more weaknesses
Floatzel is a good offensive water type, and is probably your best option
Electric types are always useful, and Luxray is pretty good for that
Before the 6th or 5th gym, I dont remember, you receive a baby Lucario, which is really strong, and I always use a fighting type

What I was thinking was I would use honchkrow as my flying because infernape is part fighting and honchkrow could counter any psychic, Roserade for grass type, Octillery because why not, gardevoir/gallde, and Rampardos/bastiodon. It's just everyone chooses staraptor and luxray so I wanted to be different haha what do you think? I'm thinking no octillery because they're not that good. I just don't really like floatzel.

To be honest, you're too young to know or figure it out. Everyone I know has switched majors at least once or twice since they've taken classes. When I was 16 I was thinking history or sociology. I took physics the next year, decided to go for that, stuck with it for a year, switched to mechanical engineering then switched to computer science after taking an intro to C++ class that was required for my major.

Just don't worry about it now.
