That's because your education system is out of date and has taught you an obsolete system.

Good god.... I have never heard anyway say that. Whenever I get a problem in the imperial system I cannot wait to convert that shit. But then again, I'm an engineering student.

Metric is better than Imperial.

i use both interchangeably for different reasons but mostly based on how small something is, when i work on weapons and tight clearence parts i use metric, for bigger stuff i prefer standard, however there are times i use both at the same time.

Bigger number = heavier.
That's all you need to know to get this.

American measurement is stupid as fuck, and this is coming from an american.
User avatar #48 - novabird (10/15/2012) [-]
they both have their uses, i use all of them because there are times when you need both.
#283 - djequalizee (10/15/2012) [-]
Not really. Metric is so much easier, it's all in 10s. American logic... 12in=1ft, 3ft=1yrd, 1760=1 mile. 32F=freezing point, 212=boiling point. It's just kind of stupid, metric makes so much more sense.
User avatar #291 - novabird (10/16/2012) [-]
the problem is there's a lot of stuff that was built using both, so it's simply easier to work with what was used, to be honest it's all subjective most people will work with what they know best, as for me? my brain works in strange ways and it requires me to mix stuff to create extremely accurate results, most of the time i don't even need to measure, i simply look at what I'm doing and go ok that's how it will work then i build what i intended, I've never failed at a task, then again i can also take stuff apart and remember every last nut/bolt and where they went even sometimes a week after the job was finished, that also includes tiny parts like watch gears and transmission valves.
you do however have a point, metric is more accurate, especially if working with tiny parts because the American system can't go quite that small, my system involves using the increment size that fits the task the most evenly so i can get a balanced result, it doesn't matter if it's an even rounded number or not.

it really shouldnt matter which system you use the point gets across the same
User avatar #16 - mahjimmiesarusslin (10/15/2012) [-]
dude stop making americans look bad, learn the metric system
User avatar #72 - deltadeltadelta (10/15/2012) [-]
The US, Liberia and Myanmar are the only countries that don't use the metric system. However, that doesn't mean everyone in those countries use the metric system. For example, when people in Canada refer to their own weight and height, use pounds and feet/inches. In the UK, they refer to their weight in stones. But for pretty much everything else, the metric system is used.
