The premise is that the money, factories, and raw materials would all be owned by the new worker government, and, with the aid of modern technology, would bring education, healthcare, food, and goods to the people

Marxism points out the flaws in the society, mostly. He talks about the further spreading gap between poor and rich, so it should actually be something more of this kind :
(the big chesspieces represent the wealthy and powerfull, who are definitely outnumbered by the working, supressed man.)

the way they explained it is it kind of enhances things. like if you think about something youll see it. otherwise everything is just kin of fuzzy

It's like you experience new senses, but their the same kinda. A perceptual gear-shift, the sensation of seeing something is completely different but it all still correlates with reality in the same way that normal vision does. Try to imagine having a completely new set of colours that are nothing like the range of colours we percieve, but the colours are still based on the frequency of light you're seeing. Now imagine you're not seeing colours at all but more like perceiving them in a way you would if it were an entirely new sense. And that's true with all of your senses to an extent while on it, including things like your 'sense' of danger or even your 'sense' of the walls in the room you're in. All perceptions and shifted, and they become more twisted and different to your normal senses with the dose. This is with both mushrooms and acid. I'd classify them as 'hallucinogens' but they're not the same as ones like datura where you actually see shit that's not there.
