It's set in the Diablo universe? Diablo 3 is practically a completely different beast from the other Diablo games. You could switch out the name with something else and you probalby wouldn't know that it was part of the franchise if it wasn't for the case of the story.

I guess there is still this fashion of once you get to peak performance you just crash yourself against the monsters and watch them blow up in a visceral bloody mess. Although the art design is very Blizzard-esque, it's really top notch.

I would really love that but no. There are legendary gear and weapons that have affix that change how your skills work. Right now, I have a flail that allows me to cast shield throw at no cost of resources. I also have this shield that affects my shield throw which lets it bounce between enemies 5 more times on top of the original 3.

It's also been revolving around Set builds. You know the sets in D2? Well, they've taken center stage for the most part. Radically changing how certain skills work but they have been pretty stifling to build diversity and forced players to go with the sets if they want to stand a chance on the leaderboards.

This patch and the upcoming patch is aiming to fix all of that. They are introducing a new set I know, it's ironic to make it so you don't need a set to compete. So long as this ring set is the only set in your gear, your damage is increased by 100% and your damage resistance is increased by 4% for each legendary weapon that is also an ancient. This is something I have been waiting for and think will finally open up build diversity.

Ah, ok. That actually sounds like something that I wouldn't love, unfortunately. If my name gets pulled, you should pick someone else who would enjoy the game more.

Diablo 3 is nothing like its predecessors. The game has a lot more emphasis on picking your gear rather than your skill to build your character. Plus, it's a lot more fast paced and brightly colored (aka blizzard-esque) as compared to it's slower pacing and gritty stylized ancestor.

Not trying to deter you from enjoying the game just setting your expectations.
