Oh boy, here we fucking go again.

Look, Lil Wayne was great in his prime. IN HIS PRIME. I say it and I mean it, because I thought he was pretty good back in his days too.
But he decided to become a sellout. LIKE EVERY RAPPER DOES EVENTUALLY.

Lil Wayne only got called the greatest rapper alive, because he himself, shoved that belief down everyone's throats, untill eventually it stuck.

He became more interested in just putting things out there, instead of putting out quality material. He became interested in just being relevant. And if you think about it, he has done a great job at staying relevant.
I mean, say what you want, but he's a clever business man and while music IS a subjective matter, Lil Wayne preys on the stupid masses that just don't know any better. And he almost openly mock the people who buy his music.

And who cares if something goes platinum in a week? That's not what makes an album memorable.
High album sales doesn't necessarily make it a good album.

But like alot of things, music is a matter of opinion. And everyone has different opinions on what good music is. So who are we to judge them? Just let them be.
User avatar #90 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
I rarely ever listen to his new commercial stuff, and I know he's a genius at business, that guy really can sell anything he wants. But I don't support him by means of buying his stuff, I don't have any Lil Wayne merch or CD's, I only have illegally downloaded music. I believe that if he concentrated and really wanted to, he can show his potential. But he's far, SO far from being the worst rapper/muscician now or ever.
User avatar #60 - sliske (03/21/2013) [-]
In his prime he was still just a mediocre rapper spouting the same used up bullshit rhymes that every other rapper does.

I don't think he's as utterly godawful as a lot of people say, but I do think he's come to embody a whole lot of what's wrong with the state of rap. He's nowhere near as good as he thinks he is - for a man who has openly called himself "the greatest alive", he resorts to corny, pseudo-profound punchlines way too often for comfort - and the more popular he's gotten, the more he's catered directly to all of the wannabe-gangsta suburban kids, who have no business acting hard at all. I will admit, though, that he has far more raw talent as a rapper than the likes of Soulja Boy, Brick Squad, and White Girl Mob.
User avatar #77 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
Agreed, he's very commercial now, and has mostly weak songs, and he's not the greatest alive. (even if KRS-One said he is) I really like his old stuff, and try to avoid his new shit, Weezy Baby is far different from Tunechi, and yes I can list a bunch of rappers way worse than him.

Well Lil Wayne broke out in the mid-90s so the fanbases were a lot different.
User avatar #67 - tylosaurus (03/21/2013) [-]
So what? A fanbase is still a fanbase. What. Now you're being the jerk who hates on Justin Bieber because the internet has told you to? You're strongly implying that the fanbase is wrong for liking him.

All of the double standards.
User avatar #70 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
I have nothing wrong with Justin Bieber, I'm just saying people buy into gimmicks more easily today, not saying JB idn't talented, I respect him, but back when Lil Wayne became popular, people like real hip hop, not the commercial shit it's become today.
User avatar #76 - tylosaurus (03/21/2013) [-]
You're seriously putting pop (That popular shit today) equivalent to hip hop? Justin Bieber is pop. Nigger, what are you on about?
User avatar #79 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
Hip Hop>hip hop>rap=pop

Now Lil Wayne makes commercial rap songs that stisfy some pop audiences, when Lil Wayne started, and for most of his career, he made Hip Hop songs, and they were good, even KRS-One praised him.
User avatar #82 - tylosaurus (03/21/2013) [-]
Hip hop is rap, hip hop is not pop, rap is not pop. Rap is NOT popular. What the heck is the difference between Hip Hop and hip hop? Is that some self-made definition of the music genre or what? Pretty sure there's only one term.

We're talking about nowadays, not when you thought he was good. I don't even one what a KRS-One is.
User avatar #84 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
KRS-one is considered one of the most influential rappers, my sister's African American culture teacher hated rap and hip hop and what not except for KRS-one cause of how smart he is, and he's considered one of the best MCs/rapper of all time, he's the one that sepperated hip hop from rap.
User avatar #86 - tylosaurus (03/21/2013) [-]
Rap is part of hip hop and sometimes used as a synonym for hip hop..
User avatar #71 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
people liked**
User avatar #57 - chaotixx (03/21/2013) [-]
Could it be because some people have no taste in music?
User avatar #61 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
I used to hate him, did I really ever listen to him? No. Did I care? No. I hated him cause funnyjunk hated him, then I heard "Mirror" and commented with the link to it and saying, "Probably the only serious Lil Wayne song" then another guy replied and told me about how much he respected Wayne and listed a lot of his serious songs, instead of insulting him or thumbing him down, I listened to them, and now I love listening to Lil Wayne (not much of his stuff after 2008), there's nothing wrong with my music taste, I love Tool, zepplin, Nirvana, RATM, etc..
User avatar #65 - chaotixx (03/21/2013) [-]
I don't like him, not because fj thought he sucked, but because i did try and listen to his music, and in all honesty i thought it fucking sucked. Now don't get me wrong I still like some rap, but mostly old stuff back when it had heart which is the same reason I mostly listen to old rock
User avatar #66 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
"Tie my hands" and "fuck the word" have a whole lot of heart.
User avatar #64 - tylosaurus (03/21/2013) [-]
I've looked through the comments and the links.

I did not like the music at all.
User avatar #68 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
Maybe not you're preference, but don't go around saying shit like "All he raps about is pussy, money, weed" "he can only rhyme nigga with nigga" "he ruined hip hop/rap" Cause it's straight up not true, listen to Chief Keef, that guy ruined rap.
User avatar #72 - tylosaurus (03/21/2013) [-]
I didn't say that. There's very little rap that I like and those nigger style raps are definitely not my style. One of the links you posted down below. I couldn't hear any rhyming what so ever.. I really don't like rap without rhyming to set a cool rhythm. Speed-talking isn't music in my ears.
User avatar #75 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
"GO DJ" has plenty of rhyming, as does "Help" but it's really short.
User avatar #80 - tylosaurus (03/21/2013) [-]
Skimming that through there are approximately 4 rhymes not counting in those stupid "Fresh" rhyming with "Fresh" or "The, the" or "Dj". There are probably more rhymes, but theres so few. Shit, the language is so god damn annoying. Broken english and stupid slang that doesn't make sense. That song gave me cancer..
User avatar #81 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
That song's great man, it's like 4 minutes long, or did you just read half the first verse?
User avatar #83 - tylosaurus (03/21/2013) [-]
I listened to the entire song and read the entire lyrical set. I think I lost approximately 10 times more braincells listening to and reading that, than drinking 10 beers a day for a week while frequently banging my head against a wall.
User avatar #85 - onceman (03/21/2013) [-]
It's about the flow and rhyming, the lyrics aren't supposed to emotionally stimulate you.
User avatar #87 - tylosaurus (03/21/2013) [-]
You're fucking kidding right? You're saying that shit got flow when with those rhymes? Rhymes create the flow together with the music. The flow and the lyrics suck.

A baby's screech has a flow too. That doesn't make it music.
