What makes you think i havent ?
Also .. what you are saying is that the now day artists are so useless that they need to take stuff from a previus era rather than create something new .
User avatar #322 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
You need to give classically influenced artists such as myself credit, every artist took influences from previous generations, the progression of music is an evolution, and it sounds like you're after a revolution, which I doubt will happen.
User avatar #335 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
Every artist? Lolwut? Are you saying that classical music came first and created all other music or atleast had influence on all other genres?
User avatar #339 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
I'm saying Classical music influenced many genres. as Classical was influenced by genres before it, and so on. Blues also influenced many genres, and came from the slave trade, so, yes, every artist has influences, you can always trace it back to something before it.
User avatar #341 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
I didn't see classical music give credit to anyone.
User avatar #344 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
Also, the entire Baroque period came before Classical and heavily influenced it.
User avatar #343 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
Classical music was a natural progression from some of the Medieval music that came before, however, it was quite possibly the first western genre of music to standardise the rules of music, to create what is now known as 'Music theory', so in that sense, classical is the music upon which all western music is based on.
User avatar #347 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
All western music? What are we talking about here as for western? The native americans were there first, the so called americans were all europeans plus we aren't only talking about western music with influence here. I'm pretty sure that asia had their own kind of music before too that also progressed into something else.

I still haven't seen them credit anyone.
User avatar #353 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
As in music that is popular in Western Cultures.
User avatar #354 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
I can't agree with you that classical is what all western music is based on.

Still, why would people give you credit if you don't give credit either?
User avatar #355 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
In the sense that what people refer to as Classical popularised what we now call music theory, which all modern western music is based on.
User avatar #356 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
How is rap based on classical?
User avatar #387 - racalos (05/26/2012) [-]
another way to think of it is "classical to jazz to blues to rock to rap" seeing that rap used to use rock songs as the music part of their rap and as omnomnominator said, classical is also from many other influences. It was basically taking all the good things from the era's before it and making specific rules behind them. If you took any band class or have watched any musician play, no matter what genre, they count off on that 4/4 beat and keep that beat (there is a reason behind head banging). The only real differences in songs/genre are general tempo, instruments, and notes which is what makes up the style. and I know there is a step between classical and jazz but I can't quite remember it but I had to watch a 12 hour long video series on jazz for my marching class and it did indeed state that classical was the start of western music. Which the western world is not always referencing the Americas. If you lived in the classical era the western world was in fact Europe.
User avatar #388 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
Aha, I see. You seem to be better at forming a proper sentence and giving out what you mean, clearly he was contradicting himself. Look for previous posts for that.
User avatar #359 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
Often Rap has hooks, often based around the Major scale, though Minor scales are very common in melodies used in rap, and a steady 4/4 rhythm is kept throughout, all of which would require at least a basic knowledge of music theory, which Classical popularised.
User avatar #360 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
Do tell me how classical has the same rhythms as rap. Do tell me how talking really fast with occasional rhymes are like classical. Classical barely has any lyrics. Do tell me how a techno beat is influenced by classical.
User avatar #378 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
I don't boast, you're just a bit of a wanker.
#379 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
Yeah let's just say that. Coming from someone who wants credit because she plays classical, but doesn't want to give credit to others because she thinks that classical is the origin of music and that it influenced all other music that we listen to nowadays.

If you study this shit, then you're pretty stupid to think so. Clearly each genre has it's own history and it didn't all come/got influenced by or from classical. You speak of classical as if they invented sound, screw you.

Give credits to the birds and other animals, they are basically the ones who invented music.
#380 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
Even though I've actually explicitly said Classical was influenced by previous genres in this thread, and you completely missed your point. By the way *he.
#381 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
Even though you're contradicting yourself by saying that. "ALL western music is some way influenced by classical"

"You need to give classically such as myself credit" Who the hell in classical gave credit to what they were influenced by?

Load of bullshit.
User avatar #361 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
Rap requires at least a basic knowledge of Music Theory that was popularised by Classical, you've not been reading properly.
User avatar #364 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
Do tell me how non-lyrical totally different music beats is related to fast-beat techno-related fast lyrical music.
User avatar #376 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
You act educated, but I doubt you can even read a fucking treble clef.
User avatar #377 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
You act educated and boast about it, yet you can't even prove your point.
User avatar #374 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
All Western music is, in some way, influenced by Classical. Yes, the Tribal drum rhythms and the like influenced Techno, however, Techno is much more than just drum rhythms, there are also hooks and melodies, which were crafted with knowledge of music theory. Now, sit the fuck down, and don't talk back to me, cunt.
User avatar #375 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
Yes I see how spiritual music from the indians were influenced by classical music even though there weren't any fucking europeans in america.
User avatar #372 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
Because every kind of Western music uses music theory, which Classical Music popularised, so they would have heard music that uses that theory and whoever wrote the instrumentals would have had to have a knowledge of theory to make proper, functional, commercial music.
User avatar #373 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
You say you study this shit? You're really wrong there. Not all music is inspired by classical music, you say it as if they invented "beats". Techno is far from classical. How about old tribe music? Using the australian instruments, the spiritual dances and instruments that the native americans used?

that's a load of bullshit.
User avatar #369 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
Rap requires at least a basic knowledge of Music Theory that was popularised by Classical.
User avatar #370 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]
So how can black people without ever being able to listen to classical music or who have never heard classical become famous by making their rap?
User avatar #367 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
I did. Repeatedly.
User avatar #368 - tylosaurus (05/26/2012) [-]

I dont thing you get what influence means .
Getting a classical piece and re-making THE EXACT same piece .. or taking parts from many pieces and making a "new one" , is not called influence .. its called copying .
I WAS a musician aswell . I just given up , because the people now days dont listen to music .. they listen to dumbster shit ...
Get a firecracker , put it in a dumbster with some more shit to make more noise and people will listen to it if you say its made by deadmau5 , and you know its true .
After i gave up on been a musician , i became a painter , this is my latest work .
I call it "Cows Grazing in open field "
IB4 you ask "Were is the field ? " They ate it .
IB4 you ask "Were are the cows" They moved to another field .
User avatar #340 - omnomnominator (05/26/2012) [-]
I never actually say that, you invented that argument for your own benefit.
User avatar #346 - mhden (05/26/2012) [-]
I didnt invent anything . Thats the feel you gave out , and thats how i answered .
Because thats what you so called "influenced" Musician mostly beleave is called been influenced ....reminds me of bad chinese ripoffs
