Well now i regret going dark for a few weeks, everything seems to happen when i leave.
I've been on /b/ as well, despite what I've seen on FJ about new mods ruining 4chan, its still pretty much the exact same as it was when i left. Except now they write "Do I get banned if I do this" before posting Jlaw leaks and gore.

> It is **** that Scotland never got independence, especially considering 71% of young voters wanted it (Talk **** about young people all you want, but what you need to remember is that they've got the most to live for, they'll be the ones needing uni funding, needing jobs, buying houses etc).

Actually, unless I'm mistaken, I heard that in the end the majority of young voters voted no.
Besides, they'd be better off living in a union of countries rather than a solitary one which decides it can do things on its own when it clearly can't without the resources and support (which it would be sorely lacking after splitting from the UK) and would be run by basically the same people but Scottish rather than English :/

>would be run by basically the same people but Scottish rather than English

Exactly. Independence wouldn't have changed much except the nationality of the guy fucking you about. I think we can all agree that politicians give with one hand and take with the other. Thats mostly for the short run though, in the long run it could benefit Scotland more.

Like I said above, it does need England at the moment, because it doesn't have the right things in place. It does have plenty of resources regarding electricity, oil, water etc, but without anything to store it, it wouldnt be as efficient and effective as they'd need to succeed.

Normally I'd agree that a Union is better, its stronger etc. But in this case its not necessarily better. The UK isn't equal, its not like the EU were everyone can make their own choice, they just consult each other to make a decision thats best for everyone. In the UK, Scotland and N. Ireland have some power, England has Westminster and the majority of power over the rest of the UK. Wales has sheep.

However, now that Scotland have voted no, the referendum could have gave a wake up call to the Union and it might sort its shit out, to make things more equal.

Just noticed that it seemed like I was seeming Anti-English. Im not saying its England's fault that the Union is shit, Its Westminsters fault, we can all agree on that. I was saying England had the power because it has Westminster and the majority of the UK's population. Then again though, I know plenty of people in England that think the Union is shit as well, so we'll blame London. London has more people in it than Scotland and wales combined. London has Westminster, and London is conservative.

Tl;dr: Im not being Anti-English, at most Im being anti-Westminster and anti-London

The votes WERE rigged oh yes they were because this is the SECOND referundum.

The first one saw a majority of YES votes and yet it didn't pass and you know why? Because the Prime Minister of the time invoked a shady bs loophole.

Scotland should be free since decades already.
#28 - Blasphemer (09/20/2014) [-]
"I told you so"
But you are saying it yourself: "Scotland is not ready".
If they got yes, it would fuck things up.
So what gives them the right to say "I told you so" later?
If anything it's the "yes voters" who are being stupid here, according to your post...
User avatar #63 - odonnell (09/20/2014) [-]
The Yes camp relied heavily on trying to convince people the if you stay in the UK you'll get what you've for for the past 300 years, the shit end of the stick.

I get what you're trying to say, but since we did vote No, no-one will know if indy Scotland would have been a success or not (although it is unlikely for the points I said above), all we'll know is that we voted to stay and whatever happens now is entirely on our own choices (Well entirely on the 55%'s choices). Good or bad.

It does go both ways though, if we did get indy and it fucked up, then the No camp would get the benefit of saying "I told you so". It is a stupid thing to do, but its also quite satisfying.

After seeing whats happening in George Square I'm glad we never voted yes. If the Unionists celebrate winning by burning the Saltire, shouting abuse to yes supporters, dragging police off their horses and assaulting people. I'd hate to see how they lose. Those kind of actions should make you ashamed to be British or Scottish. What I did find funny about the situation though is that the Orange Order is running around shouting "No Surrender" yet, they just gave their country to another.

I think we can all agree that the Orange Order is just retarded. Whether you're Yes or No.

He means not ready in the sense that it was still a gamble. One that I think we should have taken. Or should we? I am massively conflicted.
User avatar #45 - TheHutchie (09/20/2014) [-]
The stakes were too high. One little thing would go wrong and then we'd be a second world country.
#49 - verby (09/20/2014) [-]
You think Scotland would have ended up allied with the Soviet Union?
User avatar #62 - TheHutchie (09/20/2014) [-]
I think Scotland would end up allied with the same people as it is now, but without the support of the UK and the EU, it would have a very, very hard time keeping the NHS, public transport and convenience systems and its glorious university systems running.

Something would have to go, and even if it's only temporary, it would take a large chunk of our economy and future with it.
User avatar #67 - odonnell (09/20/2014) [-]
I think Scotland would have managed to make it along if it voted yes there, but it wouldn't do it very well.

Like I said above, without the right things in place, there will be lots going to waste. Most yes campaigners say they can sell electricity and water to England, you cant do that unless you have anything to store it. Instead England would be able to charge us to store our excess.

Someone else said something similar, think it was the virgin guy. Give Scotland the extra powers the now, see how well they work out, give Scotland a chance to prepare itself for being independent, then have another vote in 5 years time. Having a referendum should be a wake up call for the union and hopefully persuade it to sort its shit out. But then you get certain people trying to take the piss and relate it to the situation in Quebec and the "neverendum", the same kind of people that made Salmond resigning look like he ragequit from butthurt (Despite him announcing a month ago that he'd be standing down after the referendum no matter what the outcome, even though he probably only done so to stop people using him as an excuse to vote no)
#46 - damnatii (09/20/2014) [-]
I don't really believe that. We've just gone through the largest recession in decades and although things aren't great, we are still very much a first world country.

A lot of people use the fear of economical collapse to justify voting no but the sun still rises and sets in countries like Ireland. I think it would be a case of short-mid term difficulty for long term gain.

But who knows? I'm just a regret filled no voter.
User avatar #60 - TheHutchie (09/20/2014) [-]
Perhaps you're right.

All I can say is that if Westminster's so bad, we'll succeed in leaving next time. If that happens, I simply hope we're more ready.

Still, we'll all be glad in a few weeks time when the animosity's died down.
#59 - 4chan refugee (09/20/2014) [-]
Ireland gained Independence in the early part of the twentieth century. Are you honestly saying that going independent then is comparable to now?

Sorry man, but your entire nation is deluded. You have no currency. Existing on someone elses rates is the first step toward collapse. London pays for Scotland, and the rest of the UK for that matter. Appreciate that, before you burn your own house down without insurance.

With 45% of people in favour of independence, things will improve. For any party to back out of almost any promise would be political suicide. I'd rather have at least slight improvements instead of being run into the ground by MUH BRAVEHEART MUH FREEDOM.

if scotland were to go independent, 83% of it's GDP would go purley to debt. making you more broke then Greece. by the EU's rules, you would not be able to join. making you have to make your own monetary system with an economy that would put the price of a loaf of bread around 200 scottish unicorn-bucks
