- I believe the words "hydrated", "quenched"…
If you speak purely from the standpoint of grammar, it would be just as correct to say "I fed him water" as it is "I fed him steak;" that is just awkward in common speech. It would be so much more normal to say "I served them water" or "I gave them water." It's sort of irrelevant, because if you're talking about an infant, it's almost in the context of baby formula, so it would just be "I fed them formula." They learn to drink themselves early on, and then it's just "I gave them juice," "I served them water." If it was about feeding an older person, it would probably be more of a story, and you'd explain "I helped them drink their water." You would want to emphasize that in any language. I can't imagine a situation in which having a direct word for it would really matter
*roll picute*Shit now im thirsty
My immediate thought was "administer," sort of on the lines of medicine but I'm not sure how great it sounds to "administer" water to a baby
"I gave him water."
I've always been against those because they imply that there was a need for the water. If your thirst was quenched, you were thirsty, but you can give someone water without them being thirsty. They don't even have to drink it, it's just the act of giving it to them.
Or watered. Like watered the plants, except you would say you watered jimmy.
in french they just said "fuck it" and we use the same word
eating = manger
feeding = (give to) manger
drinking = boire
make someone drink = (give to) boire
Good chuckle off that one.
water - to supply (animals) with water for drinking
It's water. Has no one ever heard the phrase "water your horses"?
But do you really not realize how awkward it would sound to be like "I watered my dying grandfather" or "My girlfriend put on a blindfold and I watered her with champagne?"
It's simply because we don't use it particularly often. A lot of things that are proper sound "awkward" because it's commonly spoken incorrectly e.g. we should say "it is I" instead of "it is me", "to where are you going" instead of "where are you going to", "he's tired of my correcting him" instead of "he's tired of me correcting him, etc.
If you're really going down that path though, then we could just say "I fed him water" because to feed means to provide nourishment.
Also, even using strictly technical definitions, "watered" wouldn't work in the second of my above scenarios because all definitions of "water" as a verb involve "water" as a noun; so you can't
someone with champagne.
How about just feed? Like when mothers breastfeed their baby? They're feeding their babies milk, and milk is a liquid. Therefore feed is a more appropriate term if you can't English.
Water also works really. I mean theres the phrase "to water the horses". Dont see why it wouldnt work for humans as well.
hydrated is the perfect word
"I hydrated the baby" "I hydrated the parched man" "I hydrated the woman with her own aborted fetus blended up into a smoothie"
**boomboomsha used "*roll picture*"**
If i told a person I just quenched someone, they'd think I'm a fucking assassin.
