mentioning obesehobbo as well.

I would like to share the viewpoints of a game developer friend of mine since you are both very civil people.

The PC is nice because you can modify games, alter things and have generally more options/power. Its problems are a lot of people are better set up for console games on their tv and prefer controllers (not that you cant buy those for PC's). Its biggest downfall is you have to spend money to update it every few years as games get better and require more.
Conversely consoles are a one time expense and all games play at the same quality across the board. they are also simpler and easy to set up/enjoy. They also have a bit more game development currently. But they are locked in to the technology they were made under and customization is limited.

Long story short both have pros and cons...cant we all just enjoy the fact that we all enjoy to play games?
User avatar #326 - Mortuus (04/17/2014) [-]
The average PC gamer will save ~$5000 on games, compared to a console player. The whole "it's expensive" argument is bullshit.
User avatar #336 - Mortuus (04/17/2014) [-]
Disregard this.
#334 - asdffes (04/17/2014) [-]
Over what period of time? I don't think I even own $5000 in games. The price for a good PC setup is over $1000 while consoles don't break 500. I think my friends biggest complaint is every year the next bigger and better game comes out you are shelling out for a new graphic card, or other components to bring your pc back to spec.
#335 - Mortuus (04/17/2014) [-]
Yeah, the comment I made was fucked. The difference is much less substantial.

Still, PC gaming is cheaper.

<--- Chart (Disregards Steam sales)
User avatar #428 - timoyr (04/17/2014) [-]
Don't know 'bout xbox but with ps+ you get 2-6 free Granted you have to pay for the ps+ games every month that have better than 75 score on metacritic, and most of the are quite new, hitman absolution became free 6months after it's release.
User avatar #432 - Mortuus (04/17/2014) [-]
I mean, I'm sure you get some great deals, but I simply find the PC more useful as an all-around platform.

I could do the math, later.
#343 - asdffes (04/17/2014) [-]
I think that is a little low for PC hardware. I know you can do pretty decent budget builds, especially now, but for many enthusiasts I think they spend a little more.
That being said this is a pretty good chart but It doesn't take into account the 8 years of computer upgrades you will most likely need to make over the years to keep up with games.

In all likely hood PC gamers can get games for cheaper but they will spend more upgrading their setup while console gamers will spend less up front but more along the way for games. Especially with steam sales.

although I think the biggest reason people pick consoles or PCs is because of game availability.
User avatar #347 - Mortuus (04/17/2014) [-]
Even if you spent ~$1000 on the build, you're still saving money.

As for console vs. PC, I've noticed that most people tend to do whatever their social group does, so if their friends go PS4, so will they.

Personally, I'm a major PC enthusiast, but I tend to avoid bashing consoles, because it's just another way to play a game.
#378 - asdffes (04/17/2014) [-]
In the end we really only get into things our friends do .

If you add upgrade costs over 8 years it should bing the numbers closer together, but it does appear they are cheaper. They are likely to get cheaper too as PC power is already breaching ridiculous power levels.

My original point was part of a discussion I had about 6 years ago, It might have been more valid then but it is likely waning in truthfulness with the new technology of today.
User avatar #380 - Mortuus (04/17/2014) [-]
According to Moore's law, it will continue to increase in power, exponentially, over the coming years. I honestly can't wait to see what the future of processors will be.
#601 - asdffes (04/21/2014) [-]
I agree, and Its crazy how powerful processors are now. They have pretty much outstripped the current program demand for power, minus some very heavy video editing, GIS, database and ridiculous calculations...

I think it will be super interesting to see if Intel gets their promised chip off the ground here...it shouldn't be much longer.
It will also be interesting to see what types of software will emerge to take charge of our new nuclear reactor power processors.

theres still upgrades, and id rather just spend a few hundred less on a console because theres lots of first parties i play on console and i have friends over to play madden or tekken which is better socially imo then just chatting in skype. Pc gaming isnt the best for everyone, just ppl who dont give a fuck about first party titles, care more about graphics, have the money for upgrades, and all the time in the world.
