Every game with gameworks has the features as optional, and if they aren't optional (as physx can be in some cases) it's run through gpu agnostic means such as the cpu.

I can list a lot of gameplay mechanics that were improved in DS2. Power stancing, shield breaks, (although I did like kicks, I kinda want both), I feel like the movesets are more interesting as well.

That being said, DS1 is better in pretty much every aspect. The level design is stellar, the lore is intriguing, and the boss fights were better (except bed of chaos which is the worst boss between the two)

I just roll with some random-ass armor that keeps me at fast roll, a heavy weapon of my liking, and pyromancies. Use chloranthy Ring, Third Dragon Ring, Giants Ring, and Southern Ritual Band.

I never really messed with meta, so my builds are usually shit, but I win a slight majority of my fights so it works out.
