what i mean is, they were under attack and the guys who were making it probably died. I doubt their whole population made the calendar together and when they were under attack were all like "oh shit, now we cant finish the calendar!"

First off, it's not like the calendar just stops like the power cutting out. It ends, like an episode says "The End" before the credit roll.
Not only that, but those calendars were very sacred. In fact, there are several calenders still hidden away, so secretive only the few remaining Mayan Shamans (yes they still exist) are allowed access to them.
