| I agree that the originals had some pretty garbage light saber duels, but that wasn't as much the focus of the films, and they made up for that in the witty dialogue and fantastic characters. The prequels took themselves too seriously, but damn if they didn't have awesome fight scenes. And you're right, if the next film has better battles then I shall eat my words and be grateful for the contrast The Force Awakens provided. Yeah my thoughts exactly, my friends and I have had discussions like that. There are too many one-off characters that seem to be important, but are never explained (the guy at the beginning who gives Poe the map, and the whole character of Maz). For movie structure they could have easily have gotten rid of them and made room for what the movie was building up to: finding Luke Skywalker. They spend the entire movie talking about this special map, and then they don't even show one second of them actually following the map to get to him. I was expecting an adventure there. Point being, it's obvious in the movie's structure it's meant to fit into a trilogy (more-so than just the plot having a big to be continued). I would have liked the movie to be more focused on itself rather than setting up the future, but what can you do. It was still a good movie. | ||

| Even so, just talking from a visual perspective they could have done it better, even done something to hype up Kylo better - like having him take on both Finn and Rey at the same time, all whilst being injured. At least one good lightsaber duel is all I'm asking for, man, that shit is the shit They are indeed. But, A New Hope had probably the most embarrassing lightsaber duel in the franchise. It's alright with me if they start slowly with duels in this new trilogy anyway, it'll make the final battle all the sweeter. For instance, in my opinion the Darth Maul duel was the best lightsaber sequence in the prequels, and it was almost wasted since two of the three characters involved promptly die, and the story continues on. I would much rather the Anakin/ Obi-Wan fight have been the most memorable, as it is a more meaningful fight to the storyline. | Alright, maybe candy crush wasn't the right example how about clash of clans, monopoly, every cow clicker on the appstore? There are enough games that get played but are not designed well. People generally don't care if it's designed well as long as they don't have to think playing it. Yeah, it has a lot to do with what your friends are playing I think. There are a lot of games in my Steam folder that I'd definitely pick back up if people I knew wanted to play them. It's the same with apps, even the most dedicated fan to a well-made game would stop playing it eventually if he was the only one on earth that owned it. So these companies do indeed swing their brand name around and use their resources to drive up popularity, even on games that don't deserve to make it on design alone. | ||

| Hey, I hate micro-transaction games with a passion, but unfortunately it's either that or ads in the mobile market, because very few people are willing to pay money upfront for an app. Candy Crush never would have become a thing if it wasn't "free". Also, the wait time only exists if you repeatedly lose a level to my knowledge. Git gud, as they say. As for your problems with the game design, I don't know what to tell you. They use objectively good game design principles. The sound effects are appropriate and match the animations. The color palette is vibrant, the graphics are good quality for a 2D game. The game speed and progression are fitting for a puzzle/color-matcher. Other than the micro-transactions, which we both agree suck, the game does pretty much everything right mechanically and artistically. Like I said, I don't play it, it's not my cup of tea, but I respect the designs they put into their (stolen) game. | Yeah that arguement doesn't go up. Entertaining and good game design are not the same thing. Millions of people play candy crush, but let's be honest from a design perspective it's a shit game. Ofcourse he is a elitist dick, but he is not wrong in the fact that heroes of the storm and hearthstone are bot dumbed down versions of other games. Doesn't mean they can't be enjoyable. Actually, from a technical standpoint Candy Crush is not a shit game. Is it copied from countless other similar games? Yes. Is it casual and causes people to think themselves as "gamers" while we scoff? Yes. But it is actually spot on with the animations, sound effects, and game progression. It's obvious a lot of care went into crafting it to be something enjoyable and addicting. As a part-time game designer myself, Candy Crush has a lot of design features that work incredibly well for the goal they were trying to achieve. I'd never play the game myself, but that doesn't make it shit by default, it's actually put together really well. So these companies do indeed swing their brand name around and use their resources to drive up popularity, even on games that don't deserve to make it on design alone. except hes absolutely right. look at say league of legends, a game many people spend alot of time on. Blizzard sees this and condenses it into this consumable almost tofu version of other mobas. I dont find fault in the playerbase but in blizzard. Overwatch has been heavily inspired by TF2, which has been free to play for years and when it did cost money it was only for a third of what blizzard have the nerve to ask for this knockoff that like all their other games copies as much from popular IP's as legally possible. It's terrible to see as it isnt inspiring anything, its encouraging that gaming be just a business full of safety and no variety. It's sickening to see it honestly. #70 -
anon (12/28/2015) [-] HOTS=A mistake. Not gona argue with that, but to address Overwatch as a dumbing down of TF2 is window licking retarded, it add's more on everything, it expands on concepts already existing and doesn't really take away anything. HS imo is better than it's only competion MTG, MTG is a sell out with power creep up the ass, HS is heading down that road but no where near as bad or as quickly. And on the topic of MOBA's league has it's own pro level skill cap on par with Dota 2, difference being that Dota has a learning curve like the leaning Tower of Pisa. And don't ignore that Valve have a fuckton more money than blizzard and also used TF2 to get people on steam. Blizzard are big and money hungry but Valve is not the savior of gaming either. Oh no valve isnt by any means and im glad people are starting to see that they arent perfect. I mean they are great but they barely release games and are almost turning into money grabbers (e.g. the attempt to produce paid mods) and no Overwatch has undoubtedly expanded on tf2 but its just a bit bothering as it follows the pattern of how it is influenced a good bit by an established IP; so perhaps I worded myself wrongly there. My other gripe with the game is the pricepoint, I understand they have to make money and the game looks to admitedly have very high production quality but the price to me seems almost arrogant as the game will no doubt be compared to tf2 and if you draw that comparison 60 dollars is sorta steep even compared to whenever tf2 wasnt free to play. But I'm probably a huge hypocrite and will dump several hundred hours into overwatch anyways haha. #41 -
anon (12/28/2015) [-] Scenario: Game company creates successful games that many people enjoy. You do not enjoy said games. Therefore games are knockoffs and the game industry is failing Blizzard has always taken existing genres and changed them. They put weight on extra map objectives in stead of other things, making it different from the rest. And replaced the standard "customise through inventory" with "add, change, or improve abilities". The latter is still mostly pointless to call customisation since you have to follow a meta anyway Hearthstone isn't "casual MTG", it's a Blizzard CG that behaves completely different from MTG . Overwatch has a much different feel than TF2 and plays differently, there's a higher variation in characters and etc. There being classes doesn't make it a TF2 knockoff any more than abilities and an ult makes it a MOBA ripoff. This is a fucking retarded bandwagon and it doesn't sound like anyone in it has actually played both the Blizzard game and other games in the genre at all, and definitely not enough to actually get into it . first off no one said the industry is failing my dude but hey whatever. All of these games draw inspiration from well established IP's, and you must not know much about meta because breaking it isnt the end of the world. ITT some anon faggot whos too pussy to log in tries to argue with me about how blizzard is a cashcow. Youre not saying heroes of the storm didnt take every element ever from any moba, made it "team based" and then just copy pasted its generic shitty characters? You can call me butthurt but im not angry, I just dont appreciate the blatant borrowing while trying to sell it as something new. But whatever if I'd have posted this comment in a few weeks time instead of now id be flooded with thumbs but this is the trend for kiddies like you to feel "rebelious" and "not part of the bandwagon" But you know, whatever makes you feel like youre better than another person on the internet | ||
