Just a tip: one can gain a better appreciation for Kubrick from watching one of his films once without an analytic eye. Then you should wait some time--a few days, months, whatever--and reflect on what struck you and what stuck with you over that time period (quotes, scenes etc.). Then watch the film with a discerning eye, looking for consistencies, noting the methods and techniques he uses to move the plot along (soundtrack, camera movements, wipes etc.). Then after that, reflect on the previous viewing and compare your thoughts on the film to your thoughts when you first saw it. Then watch it again and take note of any metaphors you can spot.

I usually found this admittedly long and convoluted method of watching films I don't initially like, or "can't get through," helpful in appreciating the quality of the film-craft. No one has to like anything because someone else likes it, but sometimes it's awesome just to see what the appeal of the said thing is. I hold Kubrick to be a genius and a master of film craft and I adore his movies. That doesn't mean others should as well, but those who don't like something ought to familiarize themselves with the thing in question before passing it off.
And if you still can't get through a Kubrick film, look up an analysis by a reputable film critic or scholar to fill you in on some things you may have missed--that is, if you have a desire to fully understand it. But, it is within your right to just say "fuck it, I just don't like it."

Yehh its really something to learn from definitely. One thing I didn't put up there was that
there as something deeper. I had met this girl this past 3 months and we talked and texted
about everyday. We shared a lot of the same interests and we really started to get deep into
things as well. We don't really disclose our relationship with anyone because we feel that
since we met online people would discriminate so we kept it a secret from our family and friends.
But when I got my first ipod confiscated (this one I owned) I was pist because that was my only
means of communication. I couldn't bare going weeks without talking to her. So I stole a couple
ipods, blind by emotion. I then continued to talk to her and everything was fine....Then dad came, reported me, you know how it went. Then I realized I would have to tell her that I would be able to
talk to her for a while. I didn't quite explain all that was going on to her yet but I told her once I got my stuff in check everything would be explained. But In the meantime I need to focus on my grades and less on her because when the time comes I will be able to talk to her once again. It really hurt
that we wouldn't be able to talk for such a long time. I even cried myself to sleep. But until I can
show my dad that I can maintain my grades as well as my other priorities, then I can have my
ipod back. It will be difficult but I have to do it. I also figured I would get a job soon so that I can
buy whatever I want if I save up since I don't have any personal expenses at the time XD. Thanks

well if you think about there really isn't such thing as a past nor a future so if the time machine "will" be created we all wouldn't even know becuase for every second/moment in time a new demension is made to represent it. (I.E Pictures) so therefor there imo i believe a time machine would not be posible to create.

How is there no such thing as a past or future? Also I can't vouch for time machines being possible i'm not very scientific but basically the only reason I can think for them being impossible is that they would be around now, if they were.

If you try to explain what the future is its quite difficult. The future is simple a prediction what you will think will occur. So there is no definite answer. The past is something that has surely already happened. It cannot be reproduced in exact form. Everything you did will be in the past. Therefor there is no such thing as the "present" because it is always changing.
But I agree, time machines would be here if they were created already, but since we have no knowledge of one being created (or discovered) it is invalid to say time travel would be possible.

I also believe that time travel might be possible in a new time but we just don't have the proper tools and or knowledge in order to perform such a feat. But imo if its possible I think we may only be able to move a few seconds into the past. (I.E Tv Show "LOST") .

That does not mean that there is no future or past, the past is what has happened and the future is what will happen. There's no need to be so deep about it. And I cannot think of a single way that time travel could ever be possible with any form of technology.

Well there may be places on earth, such as the Bramuda Triangle which has been the cause of many strange and unexplained dissapearences. So that may be a time warp/portal (can't find right term) somewher in it. (I.E Amelia Earheart)

mind if i dabble on this discussion a bit? i'll take that as a yes :) i enjoy these talks. I like your idea that the future is a prediction and the past is something that has surely happened yet, but cannot be reproduced in exact form. Although, where we differ a bit is on the fact that there is no such thing as "present". Every moment IS the present there is nothing BUT the present. I can elaborate more if you would like. In the case of time travel, well first of, i have no idea if it is possible, but my opinion is that it is unlikely in the sense of travelling to a different time in YOUR OWN perceived reality/dimension. The past is a mere memory stored in the cells of your brain. The physical reality of the past is non-existent in physical reality after it is passed. There is no physical matter left of where you have been or what you have done. So travelling back in a physical sense would seem unlikely. In the case of the future, just as it is in the past, no physical reality has been created, only an abstraction of the mind in the form of predictions and thoughts, so again, a physical time travel seems to be unlikely.

Anyways i would like to see what you have to say

I believe time travel is possible, in that it doesn't take you to a point in our universe/dimension, but that it branches off and creates an alternate dimension so as to keep balance to the space-time continuum. (I.E. Preventing paradoxes and such)

What i ment by time travel is unlikely in your own reality/dimension is exactly this, i believe if every moment in time produces it's own present reality in a form of a new dimension, such as, the split decision to take a different street when walking home creates a new dimension from the one of which you would have taken the same road as usual. Then i believe that access to these dimensions can surely be accessed

Like I said before I also believe that if time travel is possible and we just have not discovered it or how exactly it works (although I believe Einstein was close [so_close.jpeg], it will lead to a different dimension and therefor it will not interfere with our own dimension like honesty said. But gsabs is exactly right that for every moment in time there is a new reality/dimension that is created and branched off In a sort of tree like way. (Trunk > Branches >Twigs > etc... [Bad example])

Unfortunately I will not agree with what gsabs said about the past being "...a mere memory stored in the cells of your brain...". I think that it isn't just a memory because it can be proven of existence from a previous time (I.E. Fossils..., etc..)

Also I don't know if anyone has thought about this before but I just wanted to add....
What if every single living organism in the universe is living in a separate dimension therefor each person is living a different life. For instance, I may be chatting with you about this very subject but you are merely an illusion and don't really exist and I have control over everything that happens but gain such power is simply impossible. I gathered this idea from watching the movie "Tron Legacy" where there are CPUs and Users.

When i say the past doesn't exist, what I mean is that it doesn't exist now. I am not disregarding the fact that the past happened because of course it happened, but the remnants that we can see from the past are being observed in the now and therefore their reality persists in the present. Your example you use about the fossil being an artifact of the past is merely a thought you identify around the fossil by thinking of what it use to be in the past, but that is a thought and only a thought. The reality is that the fossil you are looking at exists right now in the present and does not physically exist in any other time period. The key is that it exists physically right now and at no other time. Any other notion is just memories or thoughts about the past at a time it may have existed.

[normalHeck yes i have thought about that, but personally i don't like that idea... it is kind of lonely is it not? I have definitely put a lot of thought into different dimensions and truly believe there are an infinite amount (or just a lot) and the reason we can't see any of these other dimensions or associate with them because we are made up of molecules that vibrate on a frequency that is just right for our reality/universe and that other dimensions (the matter of which they are made) vibrate on a higher or lower frequency and therefore unable to be detected by our senses which are accustomed to only sense that which vibrates on our specific frequency just like how we cannot hear see or smell or feel different frequencies that other species can [normal]
