People who work for companies wouldn't say their companies are bad, I'm sure.

My mother has worked in three different nursing homes and they all had a lights out time and most of the tenants were unable to bath themselves. It isn't as bad as described above but it is about 50% of it.

Obviously, as a CNA, you don't know what you're talking about. As an anonymous that has worked in Medical Records, MDS and Medical Assessments.... the actual cost per patient and room, depending on location, is around 800 to 5000, depending on the care facility, as well if they have medicare or medicaid. Also, almost all nursing homes I have been to, have a time the patients need to be in bed, or at least in their room to not disturb others. Also, all of these activities and things you speak of are if you have the personele, and the resident is cleared for such activity. As for medicine being cheaper, no that's not the case. Actually all of the nursing homes I have worked at go through local pharmacies without discount, charging the patient, unless they have medical coverage and prescription plans. Also, lots of nurses don't know all of the procedures they need to take care of patients with outstanding circumstances and situations. This is why you have NP's and Doctors who are on call

As a fellow CNA I agree fully with you. The nursing homes I used to work in were everything you described. I just have one exception, dementia patient nursing facilities, we are much stricter in those. Patients are mostly always at a position to confuse and hurt themselves, so we have a set schedule, they don't have to follow it, but they usually do, and if they object we let them do their own thing, only it is supervised. We actually have this one couple that is married and both developed dementia. Everyones life story is posted on a plaque on their room door. I love my work.

Can you please give me name of your facility?
Because two of my gf's grandparents are in one and they pay 4000 a month, because they are in the same room, its more when you have a private room.
Even if they had to move them to another state 500 would be a huge saving.

As a CNA, I'm not as insulted. Agreed, there is no established lights out. However, if residents cannot tell me when they want to go to bed, it is whenever I can do it, which may be anywhere from 7-11 pm. Not to be rude but there are residents that can tell me, and I try to meet their requests as best as I can. Meals are served hot or cold, we do have a microwave and refrigerator. Baths at my facility are only twice a week. And some residents refuse those....every time. No taking baths without supervision, no exceptions. Very few of my residents had a TV, there is a big one, but only 10 or so residents can fit at one time. Medications are most definitely NOT free. Those are still at the expense of the resident.

I have no idea where you live...but that is the cheapest rent I have ever heard of for a nursing home. Where I work, it is $5,000/month. That is ONLY if you share a room, otherwise it is over $6,000/month. It is utterly ridiculous.

I acknowledge that nursing homes are not as bad as prisons, but there are still a lot of nursing homes that are poorly managed and that have employees that don;t give a fuck about the residents.

Not half a year after my grandmother was sent to a nursing home, she died. Yeah, she was pretty old, but it was odd. She was much skinnier, having lost almost two dozen pounds, and her bed sores were terribly visible. Not once in her 4 to 5 years living with us prior did she have such bad bed sores, because we always shifted her body as needed. Apparently, the people in the nursing home, who are supposed to be more qualified with senior care, did not once do this.

My parents have thought about taking legal action on reason of partial neglect, but the decision never transpired I guess.
