Well, it's THIS level of bullshit that we have to put up with from the Orthodox Church.

Also, you might want to read/hear about their completely megalomaniac project, called "Catedrala Mantuirii Neamului" (just so you can google it, in rough translation it would be something close to "Cathedral of Nation's Redemption"... or similar; and guess out of who's money that fucking Taj Mahal is being built...)

I have nothing against the belief itself (as long as it's not a completely fucked up belief, like Muslim fundamentalist/extremists)... as long as it's kept to each his own.

In my country, "belief" shoves its nose into every possible corner. For instance, go figure, our Church wanted the state to remove sewage lids (tops, whatever these things are called) that have something similar to our country's coat of arms because "people shot not be stepping on the holy cross!" (yeah, if you look closely, the falcon is holding a cross in its beak.

And yes. True Fucking Story.

If you don't have any evidence to back up your theories then they will remain theories and thus irrelevant.

If you really believe in a heaven or a god, then put your theories to the test, if you know what I mean. Otherwise your theories are in part with a global fallacy which is oppressing science, thus you are a part of the problem.
User avatar #291 - ninonybox (02/07/2014) [-]
Science doesn't need saved, it's fucking science. No force on earth can stop it. I simply believe in something grander that helped shape everything. And afterlife because it makes a bit of "sense". Also I take into consideration that everything on this planet is based off our way of thinking. Who is to say that there isn't something out there that we can't comprehend. Can't be proven, can't be disproved. That is why they call religions "faith". Now clearly we are not going to be changing each others minds, i'm fine with that. I believe one thing, you believe another. The world will still be spinning tomorrow....hopefully.

Because bob down the street can vote. Meaning he can contribute to the outlawing of gay marriage and other human rights simply because they go against his own beliefs. As well as the fact that his beliefs, when shared by enough people, may also interfere with the furthering of human knowledge. The idea of "Let's not ask questions because god said so" or any variation thereof, is ridiculous. Willful ignorance is intrinsically harmful. This being said, I know plenty of religious people who absolutely do not fit this demographic. So I think we shouldn't so much hate on religion, as hate on the idiotic minority who spread this bullshit. You know, like the ones in relatively high government positions right now.

" It's not really altering your life so who gives a shit what bob down the street thinks"

Tell that to the gays who are not allowed to marry (or be in "a civil union", call it whatever the fuck you may, I'm talking about the fact that the state should be the one who legally weds you) because "God said so".
That's a basic example of violation of human rights in my book, just because the Church wants to have its saying in the legal system.
User avatar #294 - telmarine (02/07/2014) [-]
its not religion as a whole its people using religion as an excuse to try and "protect" their children from being ridiculed for being different becuase they grew up in an age where homosexuality was a shameful thing

they don't want their kids to be different so they want to make everything a soft cornered politicly correct world

its shitty

Religion and "beliefs" are holding science and advancement down.

This is 2014, we are not mad brutes, we should question everything we believe before coming to a conclusion.

People are becoming enlightened and are realizing that religion is a scam.

Pic related because MFW not sure if I want to know
User avatar #443 - sirowlington (02/06/2014) [-]
It's definitely gore.

Basically, a mouse gets thrown into an aquarium. Confused, it sinks to the bottom looking around. There's this giant turtle that bites it's lower body, then jams it's claw into the mouse before tearing it in half. The upper half lives and makes a frantic attempt to swim back up to the surface, very much alive and very much leaving a trail of blood and mouse guts behind.

I'd totally post it if it wouldn't get me banned.

But don't worry, you stated you didn't want to see it.

It looks even worse than I described it. The first time I saw it I literally held my hands against the sides of my head in disbelief.
That was a long time ago.
#450 - metacobalion (02/06/2014) [-]
Gore doesn't really bother me as long as it isn't actual real life gore. I got really sick when we had to dissect a Sheep heart in school a few years ago.
#452 - sirowlington (02/06/2014) [-]
Once in biology class they had a set of sheep lungs prepared on a table. And I mean a bloody full sized pair of lungs. It smelled rancid. They wanted to demonstrate how lungs work by using a pump, so they hooked it up to where the throat should be and pumped. It didn't work. The smell just spread more across the classroom. Then they discovered a hole in the lungs. The teacher couldn't hold his finger in the hole and operate the pump at the same time.

I volunteered.

Could I have volunteered to operate the pump? Yes.

But there were girls watching.

It worked flawlessly. It's amazing how much volume lungs gain when they are filled.
