This whole picture is stupid. Is he trying to impress the man before he dies? He's clearly not going to win the favor of anyone above ground since they could all see the ladder and know he was scum. If he wants anything from them man, he could just go down and get it with the ladder after he dies...there is literally nothing for him to gain by appearing helpful.

I don't really understand why I like to do these things.
I like giving to people because regardless of who they are, people who are aloof to me or people who are my friends, they're all so joyous when they get presents.
