I'm not convinced that it's guilt at play here- according the statistics taken by the Gallup Polls since 1945, there has always been a majority of United States Citizens supporting the bombing.
I think the biggest problem is education- we learn so much more about the Nazis than the Japs.

And also, at the time the president who made the call was new, when it happened most people really didn't know what to think about it.
Even though it is a minority its enough and spoken enough people to be encountered even today.
I also agree on that, the only reason I know about what the japanese did was because one day while covering ww2, my history teacher made all of us close our books and told us
"You probably won't hear this unless you actually look for yourself online, because it won't be in any history text book you get in school..." and basically told us about what japan was like at the time and about their invasion of china and everything.
What they did was something that if more people knew, I doubt Hitler would be the race of evil from ww2.
