It was a surefire way to make each episode meaningful and important, I really loved the change, especially after being reminded of fucking Inuyasha. I really loved the pacing, for example I was like no, Kiriba can't lose yet, its only halfway through, they're gonna pull something outta their ass, then BAM. Asuna dies. allofmywut. Then I thought, oh, so they're gonna go with the bloodrage thing, then Kirito dies, and I was like WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. I love it when a piece of literature can play with my expectations in such a way.

It created a rich universe, where the world of imagination collides with harsh reality, just think of the possibilities! Pushed around and bullied nerdy kid as a new main character, who just wants to be a god in a virtual realm, becomes a new villain/antihero/new main character, then Kirito would cross his path. They could unite for a common goal, or be at each others' throats. The writers made very good and complex characters, I hope they will have the funds one day to expand on the universe, showing possible new seasons the same effort.

I bet it's going to be horrible, unless FUNimation does it. Also, it really bothered me as a first-degree grammar nazi, the way whenever they said an english word, they just added an "o" to the end. Like Swordo Arto Online. But after the second episode, I just couldn't care less, I was so immersed in the story. It's very rare to find such a quality anime with no fillers whatsoever.
User avatar #15 - nibxi (04/28/2013) [-]
Aniplex has its hands on it which I'm kinda happy about. The english trailer isn't terrible its just gonna be hard to accept the english voice after watching it all in Japanese. Yeah there was hardly any filler and it actually made me kind of WANT filler. It was very well done and could have used soooo much more :)

Read the books. There are 7 more. And the author is re-writing the first arc (Aincrad) to fill in the first two years that he just blew past. (Sword Art Online: Progressive).

And he made another (somewhat similar) series set 30 years later in (probably) the same universe.

Not really. It's a business and if they're making a venture of course they won't start off with 50+ episodes or something. They'll make a one, or two cour show if they have the money then make more if there's more source material/it sells well.

And guess what. Many anime don't sell well.

they haven't been officially translated and published in English yet, so it's not even illegal for sites to host English translations (for now). That of course wouldn't stop them anyways....

(scroll down to where it says "Volume 1" and click either full text or chapter 1)

Also, he is re-writing the first book to fill in that huge 2 year gap at the start of Aincrad. It's called Sword Art Online: Progressive, because it progresses through each floor.

www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=SwordArtOnline#TheSwordArtOnline :ProgressiveseriesbyRekiKawahara (WARNING, the translation only runs 3/4 of the way through the first book of this series so far)

And finally he is writing another series at the same time which takes place 30 years in the future of that universe.

And yeah, the Progressive series is going to be fucking awesome. The only downside is that because he isn't releasing them as often as the other two series there aren't has many dedicated translators. But if we are patient, they will come! :D

If you really want to torture yourself:

This is the first half of chapter two of the first progressive novel :P
(obviously read this AFTER chapter one, only posting it because you can't get to it directly from the SAO page)
