Neodude is stating the positives to online passes, if it were a good business model, then EA would still be using it and more publishers would be doing it as well.

And Neodude, you'll have to prove to me that the money is going to the developer and not just the publisher, before I support it.

Developers always get cuts of the profit from sold games, otherwise, they would tank within their first game releases.

Unless they were owned by a publisher, like with EA developers. In theory, they could just pay everyone a salary there and never let them know how well their games sell.

While EA does love money, they still have to share profits. While they may own the IP, they didn't make the game, and so need to pay out shares of the profits to those that actually did. Now, the lower down on the ladder guys at the dev will never see throe profits, but it still goes to devs.

Buying pre-owned games only profits the store you bought it at, everybody knows this.

The only real negative about the online passes was that if you bought a game pre-owned, 99% of the time it isn't going to have that pass and you're screwed. Online passes encouraged buying the game for the posted price, NEW, so that the companies that made and published the game could make profit. The moment EA started their online pass system, they made a great profit. Are they getting rid of it now? Yes. Would they be if they hadn't been recent targets due to SimCity and their other big problems? Absolutely not.

Pissing off fans is not a good business model, and apparently not even EA could afford it, other wise they would still be doing it.
User avatar #26 - nibxi (05/17/2013) [-]
As Neodude said, it actually is a good business model. The fans may hate it but they are STILL going to buy the games nevertheless. This gets them a profit and while the fan may complain about it, they are still getting a quality game in the end.

Buying pre-owned games only profits the store you bought it at, everybody knows this.

#16 - Neodude (05/17/2013) [-]
While online passes do suck, it is a way to get back at the resale market. Developers do not get a single cent of a re-sold game, so when people buy used from stores, they don't give the developer any support. I'm kinda iffy towards online passes myself...but I despise the resale industry.

User avatar #23 - nibxi (05/17/2013) [-]
Yes and no, What I'm saying is that this isn't facebook in the way that this is a site manage by one guy (as far as i know) and seeing as it is his site then it is in no way the user's right to say how he lets it function. If he wanted to turn this into a porn site over night he could very well do so. Whereas facebook is a public facet for people and their media and leaves that sort of stuff to other sites, as does this one.

Not true, the way Rowling closed the time paradox with time turners is that everything has already happened. So for all we know hundreds of wizards could have used time turners to try and save them, but the end result will always be them dieing.
User avatar #117 - nibxi (05/11/2013) [-]
But had they not gone back to save buckbeak was he dead or alive? You have to figure that in one original timeline, buckbeak was quite literally DEAD. They went back and changed that creating the loop of him being saved by them. However as many time travel movies / games / etc. have shown, not every loop is exactly the same. Had they failed to save him or hadn't gone back, he'd be dead infinitely. Same with the parents, go back and save them, recreates the time line but needs a point in which they go back to actually do the saving and once that point is established they are saved indefinitely until one loop fucks up
#11 - Ken M (05/10/2013) [-]
That makes no fucking sense. You seem to be missing the same wits as the writer and everyone else that defends this time traveling theory.
User avatar #6 - nickninjanizzle (05/10/2013) [-]
i agree her method of the time turner was a perpetual loop that actually plays out correctly. unlike looper, soo many errors in the time travel theories

Fair point.

Main point I was making though is that both series make fans go "Just get on with it already."
