I need to get out of there because it's really killing any hope I have of dieting, though. Sadly I live in a town that has very little to offer in terms of employment and I have no real way of getting into a city or something to find better opportunities. At least for a while.

Fat people, yeah, it's completely on them. But fat kids, they just don't know better. I mean, now a days there's a lot more awareness, but almost all fat kids are raised by fat parents, and it's no wonder they're fat when they get 3 McRibs for dinner every day. I feel bad for fat kids. It only makes me madder at fat parents though.

Not necessarily.
Some conditions involving the thyroid gland can cause rapid weight gain.
that's not very common though

Plus people have different metabolisms, i know some people that could eat 5 pounds of food a day and not gain any weight. I also know people who only eat 1000 calories a, day take shots to increase metabolism, and exercise often, but still can't lose weight.
User avatar
#351 - SteyrAUG (03/12/2015) [-]
If they eat 1000 calories a day and they still can't lose weight it means that either their body is twice as efficient as the average human or they're lying about the number of calories they eat.

They can say whatever they want, but they can't cheat thermodynamics.

Since this comment has brought in a lot of attention: is there anyone who can give me some advice on how to make junk food less appealing or something? Like try to make my brain not react to it as much as it does? I don't want to say I'm addicted (this ain't tumblr), but I do have strong cravings whenever I get the chance and I want to stop this as soon as possible. I figure the easiest way is to try forcing my brain to find stuff like desserts and snacks less attractive so that I'll focus more on the stuff that won't add on more to the shitpile that is my ugly fat ass.

when i was just starting to count calories and diet i would chew gum whenever i thought about snacking. Also one of the best things you can do is avoid getting your calories from liquids like soda or alchohol. since liquid calories don't sate your hunger.

Well growing up my dad fed me too much (he's a fatass) and my mom also had a shit ton of sugary treats when I was a kid as well, so by the time I was twelve I was fat and I'd hardly say that was my fault. Though, I definitely have struggled with weight since then but I mean I've lost 75lbs the past year so I mean it's becoming less of an issue and I'm still losing. It's hard to blame younger people for weight problems, imo.

tl;dr it wasn't my fault I was a chubby little fuck at 12 but it was up until a year ago when I decided to stop being a fat bitch and do something about it

Anyone can be fat and anyone can be thin.

Based on genetics, it's easier for certain people to be thin and certain people to be fat. Two people eating the same diet could get very different results based on their genetics. This does not mean that it's impossible for certain people to be healthy, it just means it can be more difficult. I happen to have a slow metabolism, but that didn't stop me from losing 70+ total lbs of fat in the past couple years, and getting to a 455 deadlift.
User avatar
#126 - srskate (03/11/2015) [-]
You are very wrong about that.
#384 - noschool (03/12/2015) [-]
barring medical conditions people should be able to maintain a healthy weight. even with a lousy metabolism and genetic disposition, some choices, like eating less, eating more healthily and exercising can help. at the very least if you eat less than your body burns you'll lose weight. some people get addicted to food but that's not an excuse, if someone is addicted to cocaine that doesn't make it okay or mean there aren't steps they can take to change.
User avatar
#385 - srskate (03/12/2015) [-]
You said it yourself, medical conditions are a factor.
Also consider that having a choice of healthy food or time to exercise is a thing that you need to have a certain level of freetime/money to do.
#386 - noschool (03/12/2015) [-]
ya but medical cases don't explain for the large number of overweight people we see today. and while i doubt there is a person out there who has absolutely no free time to spare in there life, i said at there very least you could eat less, like it takes time and money to go to McDonalds, it's not like fast food gives much in the way of nutrition so it's not like you'd be missing out on much.
User avatar
#387 - srskate (03/12/2015) [-]
I'm not excusing *everyone.* I'm saying there are counter-examples. And McDonalds is cheap and easy. All the cheap food at the store is ludicrously unhealthy. Some people work two jobs just to feed their family.
#388 - noschool (03/12/2015) [-]
i never liked the old "it's cheap to go to mcdonalds" cause it is always free to not eat. while i'd never advocate living of fast food, if for what ever reason you are, you can lower the amount of food you eat. and ya there a few counter examples but to say he is very wrong isn't that accurate when the vast majority of people could at the very least reduce the amount of food they take in if not be more active and eat a bit healthier.
User avatar
#389 - srskate (03/12/2015) [-]
You say that because you are used to getting all of your nutrients. You're seriously advocating that people starve themselves. That they not eat 3 meals a day, just because they might gain some weight, not to mention the weight gain from stress or lack of sleep.

I just want to leave this quote:
“Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,” he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.”
#390 - noschool (03/12/2015) [-]
i am not saying they should starve, i am saying they should eat enough to maintain a healthy weight, fast food has basically no nutritional value as it is, so there is no reason to eat more than you have to. people who live off fast food and are gaining weight are eating too much, and cutting back a little on the amount of greasy foods one consumes wouldn't hurt.
#109 - msparta (03/11/2015) [-]

Yeah but when did fat people ask for your sympathy? How does what someone puts in their mouth affect your life in anyway. If someone ruins themselves, do you think they care for YOUR sympathy? Do you think smokers want sympathy? How about we stop judging eachother and live our lives. I couldn't give a shit what anyone looks like and I won't feel sorry for them just because I think sucks. No one asked for your help. They don't give shit, why should you. Stop looking down on people.

Not in the lower grades I was bullied a lot and didn't have a lot friends, hell I didn't even know how to socialize and the only people I interacted with was faceless connections through the internet.

It was really rough for me and the only way to lighten my life up was with unhealthy shit like cookies and so on, it took the pain a way for some time.

I started gaining weight since I could not control my eating habbits, and by that time I didn't really care about my looks either. It ultimately came down to my life being as boring as going to school, playing video games and sleeping. And well of course eating.

Saying that you have no sympathy for ham planets is fine but my point is that everyone isn't like them. It was only after I changed school and was surrounded by people who didn't constantly pick on me that I started to do something.

I guess I just got a little irritated from reading your comment since a lot of people judge fat people without knowing why they are fat. But well, I still gotta agree that some fat people are just scrubs who cant take the simple fact that you can't eat like a full kindergarten and still be praised like a freaking model.

Tl;dr : Don't judge the book from its cover, but fuck fat idiotic fucks.

Even though i am fat, i can't disagree with that.
But it isn't simply about consuming more food than i need. It is an addiction. I am not exactly physicaly active, but i don't exactly sit on my butt all day. I simply eat way too much, and i have absolutely no idea how do i stop myself from it. The best i have done without eating too much at some point during the day without using a diet was like 3 days. And the diets are not permanent solutions, so i am not using them again. For several weeks i have been trying to slowly make changes to my lifestyle, but the only change i end up making is being a bit more physicaly active, i still end up eating too much, and i simply don't know what to do. I eat healthy foods, i drink plenty of water, i exercise, I am living otherwise a somewhat healthy lifestyle, but i simply eat too much.
User avatar
#92 - nevolmon (03/11/2015) [-]
it took me a lot of discipline to start eating less, i'd say the first two weeks were really hard and all i could think about was food.

As an unapologetic fat person (Not colossal, but I'm not just a chub, I'm a fat guy, I'm a naturally "heavier" person, but I'm also lazy so here we are), I realize what I look like, I enjoy eating and don't exercise regularly, and I don't have super-inflated standards re. people I find attractive.

I get why people hate fat people, especially "body positivist" people, but it seems weird to just hate fat people generally.

"I hate people who are lazy or aren't motivated" Sure, but being lazy and unmotivated isn't exclusively a trait of futsos, there's plenty of people who are lazy ass unmotivated slack asses and they don't get quite the same amount of hate. Maybe it's the visible sign of laziness? I dunno. I'm probably over-thinking it and going to get thumbed into the ground.
#143 - kinginthenorth (03/11/2015) [-]
Whenever i see fat people, i just want to motivate them to get healthier.
I don't hate them, i just want to help them, even if they aren't in a particular distress.

Fat people are usually chill, a small minority isn't. I find it fascinating that more people die of overeating than starving these days.
#403 - oplu (03/12/2015) [-]
Makes sense. I think it's still the same issue of starvation though. People who eat at macdonalds every meal aren't probably doing it because they want to, but because they can't afford not to. So I guess they're better off than kids in Africa with no food, but the food their eating is just as much of a problem as eating nothing at all in the end, it's just on a slower fuse.

(Not that I'm fat because MacDonalds, I'm fat because: Lazy, like to eat, enjoy all kinds of food and I'm not going to not eat fatty or salty or sugary food, and lazy)

That was my problem up until high school. I was actually pretty badly over weight, but after growing a lot and working out in highschool, I'm currently on the border between obesity and healthy weight (apparently there's a grey area between the two). I'm still not as skinny as I want to be (I'm 225 lbs and 6' 3'') , but at this point, I'd have to diet and exercise much more than I ever have to loose more weight. if you've ever tried loosing weight, it's much easier to loose the initial x amount of pounds than the last y amount I know that it's very much possible for me to go under 200 lbs by the end of 2015, but, trust me, it's really shitty to know that I have been trying, and still need to keep trying to loose weight all because my parents thought it was cute or whatever to allow their 6,7,8 year old to have three servings every night (I probably ate more on average as a 9 year old than I do now as a 19 year old).

About a year and a half ago, I was getting really fat, after I had to quit playing basketbal due to injuries. Deciding enough was enough, and also finding out I had some kind of pseudo-allergy (whatever that is), making me 'allergic' to anything containing colourants or preservatives, I decided to lose weight. I lost 25 kilo's, and I was almost at the goal I set for myself. Then I met my girlfriend, we started going out for dinner quite a few times, lost sight of my diet, gained 20 kilo's. Last week, I decided I'm gonna lose weight again, and this time untill my goal is finished, and keep it that way. I've lost 3 kilo's again so far.

Not exactly related to the discussion, just wanted to say that it is possible. And even if you lose your strength, you can get your shit back together, and with some effort, lose weight and live healthy.
#281 - mikeoxlong (03/12/2015) [-]

Struggled for the last year to lose the 10kg I put on. I'm now 1kg off that, and determined to run 10k for charity in September. It's really helped me motivate myself.
