second question, again not an insult or anything just curious.
how do you deal with the blatant flaws in the religion, or do you simply not care about them?

Not meaning to answer for him, but me being a Christian (not muslim thus this comment's a bit irrelevant) I acknowledge that my religion does have it's flaws, but it's my job to not succumb to them or be led astray by them. Religion to me makes me feel better knowing I have to be a total ass-hat and use that word really, I don't want to start an argument about it, it's just what my faith tells me that death isn't the end and that I am never truly alone regardless of my scenario. I also see my religion like quantum physics: works very well at a small level [personal] but fails when macroscopic [churches and organisations].
User avatar #154 - admiralen (07/26/2014) [-]
but how do you consider yourself a christian if you dont follow the bible properly?
#196 - tjocksnorris (07/26/2014) [-]
no one does nowadays, its just an accessory i guess
User avatar #200 - admiralen (07/26/2014) [-]
if you dont follow the bible youre not christian.
you dont believe in the holy text of christianity which was written by god, you thus dont care about what god thinks
#201 - tjocksnorris (07/26/2014) [-]
well then there is no christians
User avatar #202 - admiralen (07/26/2014) [-]
there are some that follow the bible.
but if you dont follow the bible youre not acting like a christian, you might as well just drop the whole jesus and god shit and just go with believing in a bigger omnipotent power in the universe instead

The bible's been cut up, rehashed and butchered by british monarchy we even created our own branch of it because what was existing didn't suit us (Church of England) and world scholars since it was created. I believe the word of God is still inside but it's clouded greatly by contradictions left right and center. I follow the teachings of the bible that I believe where created by the God I believe exists: an omnibenevolent, loving and just one, who requires nothing but your love back. User avatar #176 - admiralen (07/26/2014) [-]
god is omnipotent, thus he would know how the bible would be written, thus you got the version god wants you to have, you not following it is just not following god then
User avatar #212 - witislimited (07/26/2014) [-]
Therein lies the challenge. This would imply he'd expect you to think critically within your aptly named "faith".
User avatar #220 - admiralen (07/26/2014) [-]
why? hes omnipotent, everything you do, you do cause he programmed you that way, and dont tell me about free will, cause you will act according to your own morals and thoughts and he can predict those with ease
User avatar #236 - witislimited (07/26/2014) [-]
How the fuck would you or I understand the thoughts of a being whose mere existence is beyond our ability to conceive beyond the term(s) "omni/scient/potent/benevolent/etcetera"

The best I can offer is an educated guess that should be taken with a pinch of salt and laxatives. That he expects us to behave ethically would imply the world is not predetermined, as you can't have good or bad people in a world ruled by fate, only people who do good or bad things. Was Hitler a bad person BEFORE he begun the Holocaust or after? God will supposedly decide based off what Hitler does and does not do.

But like I said, this is a guess, a tiny possible situation out of all the possible situations we cannot understand associated with an unpredictable, omni/potent/scient "being". This guy can imagine stuff we can't, and can probably think an infinite number of thoughts.
User avatar #237 - admiralen (07/26/2014) [-]
its not about god seeing the future, its about god being omnipotent, which means he should atleast understand how the mind works, thus he knows exactly how we will all respond to any situation. he knows how we will turn out cause thats what omnipotence is, he sees all that will happen and by not removing the bad things you might as well say hes causing em. and even if you dont agree on that him being god and being omnipotent means he could stop all the bad things that happen in the world, and by not doing that hes basically saying its ok

There's nothing more I can do here then advocate my guess or come up with another. My pitiful mind makes the second borderline infeasible.

"its not about god seeing the future... he should atleast at least understand how the mind works thus he knows exactly how we will all respond to any situation"

I recognize the distinction between the two, but how the hell does it matter?

cause thats what omnipotence is

I believe that is omniscience. Give a human omnipotence and you end up with something like the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Give a human omniscience and playing Death Note with Light Yagami can't even be attributed to deductive/inductive reasoning.

means he could stop all the bad things that happen in the world, and by not doing that hes basically saying its ok

Some say he's done it for the sake of a test- I, on the other hand, have no fucking idea whatsoever. I will not argue with you that he condones it, but I will insist he did not directly cause it. In the same way that darkness is a natural consequence of the absence of light, evil is a natural consequence of the absence of good and neutral qualities (little bit of D&D here to explain what I mean) . If it's not good and it's not not double negatives intended bad, it is probably bad.
User avatar #243 - admiralen (07/26/2014) [-]
if he cant stop it, hes not omnipotent
if he can stop it but wont, hes evil
if he both cant and wont, why call him god

If all I had to do to concisely reply to you is just copy-paste an old paragraph, it probably means one of us isn't listening.
User avatar #270 - admiralen (07/26/2014) [-]
thats not what i mean, i mean if you walk past an alley where you see a dude get shanked, and youve got ways to stop it with ease and dont, youre an accomplise

Which means I'm a piece of crap for not helping the guy out- HOWEVER, I did not hold him down while getting stabbed, I didn't stab him myself, etc.
User avatar #272 - admiralen (07/26/2014) [-]
if you know its happening, can easily stop it, but wont, youre an accomplise.
and im not saying this against you, im just saying in general that god is a sadistic evil bastard if he actually does exist.

ac·com·plice [uh-kom-plis]

noun
a person who knowingly helps another in a crime or wrongdoing, often as a subordinate.

Origin:
1475–85; a ( c ) of unclear orig. + late Middle English complice < Middle French < Medieval Latin complici- (stem of complex ) partner; see complex

Source: dictionary.reference.com/browse/accomplice

im not saying this against you

If you thought I was offended, you really aren't listening- which is actually frustrating.

User avatar #274 - admiralen (07/26/2014) [-]
knowingly helps you by staying quiet or not doing anything.
if you walk by a rape and dont call 911 or stop it yourself youre helping
User avatar #276 - witislimited (07/26/2014) [-]
Help =/= not hinder

For example, I'm helping you by not clogging your toilet.

I really want to keep copy-pasting my old arguments because I'm a lazy piece of shit, but that really doesn't seem to work.

Unless if you count in freezer pizza, then about €15.
