I did a bit of a psychological study in my Adolescent Psychology university class about weed being a gateway drug, and I agree with what you're saying. However, most of the teens who try it, are trying it because they feel it is what will make them popular, it looks "cool" to be high or smell like it... Essentially, they do it for attention. Those who don't do it for attention, are the ones who will not regard it as a gateway drug, and will look at it as what it is. Those young teens who try it at parties or with/for their friends, are the ones who will use it as a gateway drug, because they are doing it, in the first place, for attention, as they will so easily sway to harder drugs, because that will (most likely) also be for attention.

Well, it kinda is. If you have enough willpower to stop at weed then that's all fine and good, but most of the people trying weed for the first time are teens, so once they get one illegal drug under their belt, trying another one isn't as tough.

No, what I'm saying is that weed is totally the gateway. I think it's a bit bullshit that they would use that as evidence to keep it illegal (since that property is precisely why it is a gateway drug), but there is still truth to it.
