But still, your initial comment doesn't make that much sense. The requirements are pretty low, aka pretty potato. A nearly 8 year old CPU, a 3 year old entry range GPU, and the standard RAM amount of the past 5+ years are pretty low requirements. My budget build from a few years ago could run this.

Because you're looking at old stock shit. It was $300 at release. As stock goes down, price goes up. You can pick 7870s up all day long for like $100 used. Again, this is a 3 year old GPU. Good luck finding one new at a decent price.
