I spent a lot of time kind of going back to the things that I were formative influences on me. Watched a bunch of movies that I felt really shaped me as a person. Went back and watched all of stargate which I watched a lot when I first started high school and first started becoming the person I have become today. I started thinking back into my past and asking why I'd chosen the major I'd chosen that I failed so horribly in. What I realized when I asked myself this was that my reasons for choosing it were shit. And they weren't my own. I chose it not because I wanted to do it but because I thought it would make the people in my life happy and because I thought it fit what I was good at. Ultimately I realized none of that mattered. I realized that probably my strongest personality trait is that I'm highly competitive and that if I was going to be motivated to succeed I had to find a field that would let me compete. And compete not just for grades or having memorized the most, but to actually be able to apply what I learned more effectively than others. I ended up switching to a economics major. I love analyzing patterns and the competitive nature of business really appealed to me. You have to ask who you are. You have to figure out your strongest traits. And you have to ask yourself what classes those traits come out most in. It may be painful and you may realized that many of your assumptions about yourself and your life are false. It might hurt a lot. It might make you pretty angry for a while. But in the end it sets you free. It lets you make choices that are really YOURS.
