Mexicans are from European descent.
#55 - kingpongthedon (06/27/2014) [-]
Sort of, but probably not really any more than African Americans. Phenotypic testing shows most African-Americans to be around 20-30% European in their ancestry. Not sure on the percentages for Latinos, though I imagine there is much greater variability from region to region. Almost all North and South Americans with the exception of recent immigrants have a great deal of racial mixing in them whether or not they realize it. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't latinos mostly from spanish and portuguese decent? And therefore European?
#66 - kingpongthedon (06/27/2014) [-]
Latinos are mostly an amalgamation of African, European (yes, primarily Spanish and Portuguese, but it can vary greatly from region to region), and American Indian ancestry. For the most part, Spanish and Portuguese didn't colonize like the French and English. They only brought a handful of their own to run things and left the rest to the Native Americans and African slaves. As a result, there weren't enough Spaniards for Latinos to be considered European. And even if there were, Spain is another place where there is a lot of mixing (African-European crossroads with heavy influence from Moorish invaders) so while Spain is a part of Europe, its inhabitants are not exactly blue-eyed blondes.

TLDR: Yeah, there's a lot of European influence in Latinos, but they are far from European.

European isnt an ethnicity nor Europe a continent, non-politically speaking. The iberian peninsula is politically European but not genetically.

User avatar #62 - iviagic (06/27/2014) [-]
He's referring to the fact that Europeans have a considerable portion of their population that has naturally-occuring blonde hair/blue eyes.
#10 - iwillrulenorway (06/27/2014) [-]
blonde hair is a regressive mutation only found in 2% of the population originating in europe
User avatar #33 - skittlesinexcess (06/27/2014) [-]
what about red hair?
User avatar #38 - toensix (06/27/2014) [-]
Red hair is a mutation thought to have originated from some inter-race love between Neandethalers and Homo Sapiens a very long time ago.

This is correct if I remember correctly it isn't meant as an insult to redheads. Neanderthalers really weren't as stupid as they're generally thought of.
User avatar #60 - moorbs (06/27/2014) [-]
That was the dumbest thing I've read today. It's from a mutated MC1R gene which mutated the same way any other change in our gene pool does (from radiation ect.).
#67 - kingpongthedon (06/27/2014) [-]
I think what he's trying to say is that red-hair was introduced into Homo Sapiens sapiens by interbreeding with neanderthals, which I've also heard. I doubt he was trying to say that the mutation occurred as a result of some weird interaction with caveman jizz.
User avatar #14 - butwhynot (06/27/2014) [-]
And the evolutionary explanation is that melanin (which causes pigmentation of skin, hair and eyes) protects you from the sun. Which is a useful trade in very sunny places, as to much sun can cause all kinds of disease etc. Hence people with high melanin counts live longer and havy more offspring in such countries. However in places like northern Europe where there is very little sun, you want to get all the sun you can get, as we do need a bit of it to produce vitamin D, which in turn is needed to absorb calcium. Calcium we need for our bones and teeth but it is also used for muscle contractions (u lifting bro?). Long story short in places like Northern Europe low melanin counts gives you a higher survival chances and hence more likely to have (more) offspring.
#16 - Ken M (06/27/2014) [-]
you could just say that with the lack of sun their hair turned blonde and skin turned white because they didn't need protection from the sun in their regions.

Yes, a lot of the Mexican provinces have ''puberty'' as minimum age of consent, if a 8 year old is considered to be going through puberty by things like pubic hair starting to appear or other secondary sexual characteristics then (s)he is by law legal.

When I say Propaganda, I meant that in the book, citizens are not brainwashed into military service like they are in the movie, the option is open to them. Don't get me wrong, while the book was an excuse for Heinlein to express his Political views, the actual federation propaganda in the book is near to none.

Hi, glad you still remember, haha. I've been kinda busy lately, not much free time for making comics. I do however have a couple of ideas for comics, so stay tuned :)

Well, if you like drawing, you'll get there. I've been drawing for about 17 years now, and also go to an art college, so it'd be a shame for me to be any worse ;)
