Yes and in fact, I was really only having a dig at those who say that America will be screwed if their citizens won't be able to carry firearms. Yes, but of all countries, you have to admit that the contention of America getting invaded is a bit implausible. After all is said and done, I guess only time will tell.

With all due respect, you've just executed an example of selection bias. Regardless of how impressive her story may be (I'm genuinely happy for her, don't get me wrong), you simply cannot this infer from one (a few) inspiring stories. You see, if we never try, we won't ever find out! No one's guaranteeing that some people are bound to die, therefore, we might actually be killing more people in not doing anything.

But of course, I would never vote for the outright abolition of guns — I'm merely suggesting that something along the lines of a license would be significantly better for the country.

i see your point. and believe me i was really not trying to show any bias on the debate ( i think would be appropriate to call it) its just that guns have always seemed to do more good than evil in my life. i'm not saying gun laws are perfect but the laws being stated lately would be going too far cause Obama's idea of helping mental health care and increasing the time of background checks to own a gun are both great idea's but limiting the amount of ammunition and banning "assault weapons" is stupid cause while i would love to believe that the government would never turn against its citizens, i just don't. And no i don't think banning guns will lead to the government just suddenly turn on us i think it just opens the chance to in the future. and plus if for some reason the government can't defend itself from a foreign force i sure as hell want to be able to assault anything that may come for me.

Ok, whilst I don't want to ruin the triumph of your story, you can't assume that all old people will react in the same way to muggings. I know for a fact that the USA isn't known for its safe streets, so then wouldn't it make sense to at least temporarily change the law? I can't deny that the right to bear arms is crucial when it comes to robbery in the same way as you can't deny that the removal, or revision, of the Second Amendment would lead to inordinately high crime rates. In light of this, I propose an experiment — forbid citizens from possessing guns and see what happens.
User avatar #134 - narutohaukea (01/19/2013) [-]
i'm not saying all older people will react that way in fact it was amazing what she did but if she can pull a gun that big on someone mugging her i think anyone between the ages of 20-40 could too. And while just an experiment would be interesting if it does (i'm not saying it would cause you were right most muggers are not looking to kill people) end up with someone dying i don't think it would be worth it. And plus people around here use guns for more than protection they also use them for putting food on their tables or making a living. gun's really do provide a little sense of equality between people who may be stronger than others (while this may not end so well in all cases)
