| I disagree. You don't have to give negative evidence. If there is nothing to support that something exists, then it doesn't exist. Just because I can't prove unicorns don't exist, doesn't mean I can't be sure that they don't. I'm still sure. See? No negative evidence needed. The burden of proof lies on the believers. #636

xatu (03/16/2012) [-] I agree and that is why I am atheist, like I said, but what I'm trying to say is that being agnostic about god means you don't think he can be proven or disproved, which he can't, there is no evidence that he does exist, so it is logical to conclude that he does not, but you have to agnostic about unicorns as well because you don't have proof that they don't exist, even though we know they don't exist, because once you give something magic powers it basically is untestable.

| well yes and no. free will exists but all it exists in is in the immediate present. small variance's can be changed via free will where as major events cannot be. an example would be if Oswald decided that he didn't want to shoot kennady. the algorithm would simple correct to the extent that someone else with a simaler chronological pattern would assassinate Kennedy while Oswald took his place. the minor details are changed but the overall picture is not hence predetermined free will. as ar as laws of physics and such i haven't work that out yet., it would function similar to a if then foundation script running in a video game. and no im not talking about the matrix. i dont believe life is a damn simulation. Okay. Well get back to me when you have figured out what properties of atoms and dark matter cause them to react in a predetermined way. | i personally don't believe in a god per say but i do believe in a a vast and complicated algorithm that predetermines all events based off of prior happinings that keeps the universe in a constant perpetual motion. this algorithm is far to intricately complicated for any human being to comprehend based off of both our life span and limited cognitive abilities well yes and no. free will exists but all it exists in is in the immediate present. small variance's can be changed via free will where as major events cannot be. an example would be if Oswald decided that he didn't want to shoot kennady. the algorithm would simple correct to the extent that someone else with a simaler chronological pattern would assassinate Kennedy while Oswald took his place. the minor details are changed but the overall picture is not hence predetermined free will. as ar as laws of physics and such i haven't work that out yet., it would function similar to a if then foundation script running in a video game. and no im not talking about the matrix. i dont believe life is a damn simulation. | yes, many athiests are firm believers that there is no god and no afterlife, agnostics acknowledge the fact that no one knows for sure what is true about religion, that any one of them could be true, but any one of them could be false, or all of them could be false, you never know, no one has proof that there is a god, but no one has any proof that there isn't a god #133

xatu (03/14/2012) [-] Not OP but by definition it is the belief that it is impossible to know 100% if there is a god. (technically you can be agnostic about anything, but I am using god) When it comes to god however, you would have to be a fool to think you know for 100% whether there is a god. I am personally an atheist because I see more logical reasoning against god than for, but I am also agnostic because I don't have any evidence. Anyone with even a slightly logical mind is agnostic, but you can be agnostic as well as have a religion. Well... I agree with you except for the part about "anyone with even a slightly logical mind is agnostic." As far as religion goes, I'm not agnostic. And that's super logical. It's like, if someone came up to you and said they saw a real unicorn, but didn't have proof, you wouldn't be agnostic about it. Just because you can't prove something doesn't exist, doesn't mean you don't know. Lack of evidence doesn't mean you don't know, it means you know otherwise. And that's the logic behind not being an agnostic. Btw I'm not trying to argue one is better than the other... I'm just trying to say that you can be logical and not be an agnostic I disagree. #636

The way I had it described to me is something like this... Atheists actively deny the existence of any form of deity or higher power. Agnostics don't really know and don't care all that much. They prefer to stay to the side of the whole debate. Makes sense to me. But I could be wrong. #125

msvegeta (03/14/2012) [-] Yeah that's about right. Atheists believe there isn't anything. Agnostics don't like organized religion, and think there might be something out there or whatever. One time an "agnostic" tried to tell me that the difference between atheists and agnostics was that if undeniable evidence of a God turned up, agnostics would believe in it, and atheists would keep denying it. MFW WE DRINK DR. PEPPER! BECAUSE YOU CAN'T TELL IF IT'S A COLA, OR A ROOT BEER, DR. PEPPER IS THE ONLY AGNOSTIC DRINK (besides Pabst) Did you know Mr. Pibb is supposed to be a spicy cherry soda? You know how both sodas taste kind of similar?

| Dude. I'm talking food here. So much land is being cleared for farming, that animals are going extinct from loss of habitat. The ppl who have enough food to eat aren't a "small ruling few." It's most people in industrial countries. So it's not necessarily being hogged. The Earth only has so much space for farmland. The population can't keep going up exponentially. It's only logical. There is a point when you can't make enough food for everyone, or when you don't have enough space for everyone to live in a house. I'm not in favor of a giant genocide or something, I'm just saying. If some people decide not to have kids and adopt instead, that can be a pretty good thing. | ||
