Safest car on the road!
I dont care if their safer, I'd rather not have my money going to a car I'm not buying. Who are you to say I would rather do so? Could I not show that by just buying the car, and if most people don't, then I guess they agree and the service is unneeded
You would be surprised how much of your money gets given to other car manufacturers, shit during the last financial crisis almost all of them (tesla wasnt big enough at the time to benifit) claimed that they would go under completely without a bailout and man was that bailout massive.
Yeah because Saudi oil companies are clearly much better people to give money to.
At least that's a choice, not a tax
This is stupid. Why pay taxes at all? You wont ever use most of the infrastructure that they support. But the same goes for everyone else. Why should they pay for shit that you use but they don't?
If you don't like it, buy your own land far away from everyone and stop paying taxes
and it's just stupid like Solyndra. The government isn't good at picking winners and if it was something people really wanted they wouldn't need help.
They have no idea about the Solyndra scam or any of the others. They dont think just parrot what their government taught them to believe.
They dont acknowledge corruption or cronyism or government inefficiency and have little care for the propery of others. Tools of politicians and their cronies in the private sector to make money with.
That's just blantantly untrue. Specifically in pharmacy, where research into drugs that would treat rare cases of disease would be severly unprofitable, it is a very good thing that the government provides subsidies. The same goes for anything rural, where the population density makes a lot of services unprofitable to provide. Competition is usually the best, but it's not black and white.
The government is what stops most drugs from going to market. The FDAs long, expensive approval process restricts anyone but big pharma from producing drugs and many citizens are forced to turn to the illegal international market to help their rare disease.
This point is also terrible. R & D is expensive because it takes years of research by large teams of people who got PHDs for this specific type of drug to develop, and then has to be tested on animals and then human beings (with the effects being measured for months) before it goes to market. So yes, medicine is expensive, and there is a very small illegal market for medicine in the US that cant be abused (so no one buys anything other than opioids). The government stops drugs that are dangerous from going to market.
yeah I have a feeling it's not as simple as you are making it sound.
It really is though. If only 3 people need the product, a free market will never produce a product for solely them, since it wouldn't be profitable for thing with large production costs (pharmaceuticals for example). And there are products that get subsidized so they can provide for an easier time for consumers. Fewer people would be able to buy Tesla cars if they cost an additional 5k per unit. The free market doesnt always work the way that's best for society. If a free market went without intervention then there would be even more rampant pollution than now since it just isn't the ideal choice as a company if you wanna make money.
I think you are partly mixing two concepts. Subsidies and taxation are the government tool to tip off the free market balance. Laws are the way to prevent free market running wild.
For example, if you need to avoid rampant industrial pollution, you enforce laws on pollutant emissions, or restrict the use of certain materials. If you wanna move the market along your ideas, then you tax (for the same example, fuel cars) and subsidize (electrical cars), so the consumers are more inclined to buy the latter.
But the problem here is the way bigger picture. Industries sometimes move to countries with more lax legislation, increasing unemployment. And subsidized products sometimes prove to be unprofitable without the subsidies, ballasting the government funding. And then, sometimes they prove vital (workplace legislation and pharmaceutical subsidies). So there is no real answer here, but to demand a lot of common sense from governments (which too frequently show they have none).
