 I like to think of the jedi order like the Vatican. They are religious and they themselves claim that they have a connection to the supernatural (like the force in SW) but few have actually seen that connection in action and most now-a-days don't believe that this supernatural connection exists (I get the catholic still has a big following but atheism is bigger now than it used to be so u get my point) and they used to have a big role in the government of countries but now most countries have separated church and state like the empire doesn't have a jedi order and therefore today has less power and less people who believe in them than they used to, like the jedi in the original trilogies. #18 -

That coupled with the fact of it being a massive galaxy with quadrillions of people, they weren't super well known even when they were in action. Add 30 years to that and a lot changes. 30 years ago was 85, and if you weren't around 30 years ago there's probably plenty you don't know about 85  Take it into consideration that the Star Wars galaxy has billions upon billions of planets with quadrillions of sentient beings, most of them lived their lives without ever hearing about the force or the jedi. Plus Palpatine made sure that nobody would talk about the Jedi yeah but han was a smuggler, he travelled alot, he wasnt exactly in a secluded planet in the galaxy for his whole life. and the galaxy has the main trade lines, which han wouldve been on alot as a smuggler, which was heavily involved with the clone wars and the jedi. yeah i meant he wouldve heard stories in his travels he wouldve had friends all over the place, friends who saw what happened and saw the jedi, he wouldnt have been completely unaware the jedi ever existed.
