You're incorrect, there are actually three types of Satanic groups

1. Non-theistic Satanism (LaVeyan Satanism): These guys don't actually believe Satan exists, but rather, use him as a metaphor for self empowerment, freedom, truth, and justice

2. Theistic Satanism (Spiritual Satanism): These guys legitimately worship Satan and believe him to be a real being. However, they do not see him as evil or in the stereotypical christian sense, they ALSO view him as a being who represents Justice, Empowerment, Freedom, and Truth. They do NOT perform any type of ritual sacrifice, animal sacrifice, crimes, or unjust behaviour, as they (and Satanists in nearly every sect, actually) believe themselves to represent Satan, god-hood and even the pinnacle of evolution itself, thus they hold themselves to an extremely high standard. Also, back to Satan being the good guy, or rather, balance in all things, committing such acts, injustice, or crimes are seen as MASSIVE taboos and are unforgivable.

Then you have what you thought Theistic Satanists were. 'Devil-Worshippers': these guys believe in Satan in the stereotypical christian sense and worship him as such, they also believe god is ALL forgiving, making Satan the true ruler of the earth, and commit evil acts in an attempt to gain favour. There are also Pseudo-Satanists, who are basically those 8th graders who use it as an excuse to be dark and creepy and weird, and know actually very little about it

Also, do you have any proof that Charles Manson was a Satanist? (Just as well, Alister Crowley never claimed to be a Satanist, he was a Pagan and claimed to be a magician. While his morals and ethics may have been questionable, and by questionable I also mean unconfirmed, his research and insight into the world of the Occult has provided many'a step to take for 'Modern Wizards' and 'Alchemists')
