Well for better or for worse (and most of the time i think its for the worse) i live in the usa, and theyll hand out a license to any asshole whose of age, and continue to give them back to seniors who are beyond dangerous, ive even been an eyewitness to SEVERAL dmv testers walking the elderly through their vision tested and giving them the right answers as they fail time and time again. I personally am an automotive tech in the early stages of my career, and OH MY GOD do i agree with you, but the fact is thats not how my country operates. also, having had this conversation with you, i withdraw my insults and apologize.

I accept and also apologize, my crude attempt at sarcasm through this medium was not only, not well thought out but also just plain rude, as so much of this site and the rest of the internet is. On a different note, I have been studying engineering for the past 3 years and have discovered that I am just not that interested in it anymore. The initial thought was that I wanted to work on the design side of the automotive industry, but after much (much much debt) thought and consideration, I am thinking that I would like to go down the auto tech path as well. So I guess my question would be: how has it treated you, and would you recommend it? I have heard mixed responses about the field in general.

I agree with you alot there, more than you ma realize, but the truth is most people arent willing to invest the time or pay enough attention to develop the skills or experience that would take. ABS is a good thing, because when your brakes lock up, you cannot steer the vehicle, no matter how long youve been driving, no matter how skilled you may think youreself. ABS helps prevent that. Even for stupid, stupid teenagers, and stupid, stupid adults. TCS, TPMS, park assist, self braking, oil life systems, all that shit, is just for lazy assholes that dont want to bother with anything uninteresting or "complicated". TPMS is in my opinion the most annoying to deal with, especially when customers panic over their "tire light"

I agree, I however think that if you are too lazy to practice safe driving and do basic maintenance on your vehicle you should not be allowed to use public roads. I do not know the laws in what ever part of the world you reside but here (where I have not seen a road that is not completely iced over for at least a month) basically all you have to do to be able to legally drive is know the rules of the road, you do not have to pass any meaningful skills or safety test, one just needs to know where the go and stop pedals are in conjunction with the the "turney" wheel in essence. TL;DR safe driving is not that hard and if you are too lazy to learn then you should not drive no matter what systems your car is equipped with.

Add to that the fact that there is no anti lock capability with a parking/"emergency" brake, so thanks for endangering everyone lives for the sake of being a unique retard.
User avatar #15 - mrkajoro (02/05/2014) [-]
All hand/parking brake malarkey aside, an ABS system really is not a prerequisite for safe driving. Good old fashioned knowledge and a little experience are really all it takes. Honestly it could be argued that driver aides such as traction control, stability control, and ABS ( anti-lock brakes for any one who does not know) make the roads less safe.

well have fun with that asshat, because youre gonna fuck your brakes up and the repairs are gonna cost you. You really think a lever and cable system is better than a hydraulic system? You 1920s muthafucka, get outta here.
