Meh, go with whatever feels right, if you start writing and hit a few good ideas, go with it.
If you can go from one story to two stories without letting it get dull, then you're doing something right.

I guess "everyone matures just a little bit" is the best way to put it.

Everyone turns out better, that's not technically a happy ending, but it's a "good ending".

A happy ending is where everyone can break into song at any moment, everyone is all smiles (excluding the bad guy, should there be one) happy music plays, birds fly, and often the good guy gets laid.
Happy endings are actually my least favorite ending. In real life, I've never seen such a thing, makes me think it's nothing but fairy tale nowadays... which considering what it is, is kinda sad...
Anyway, a good ending is where everyone has learned something from the experience, things may or may not have turned out well, the main character may or may not have survived and, though everyone is a little better, things may still be a terrible place.
The best example I have for this is Cowboy Bebop.
In the end, everyone turns out a little better, but you won't be smiling when it's all said and done.

Then, yes, that's exactly what I'm going for! Well, I expect an overall happy reactions, but not overwhelmingly so.

Well... No, no idea, but I'm thinking an average run-of-the-mill working unicorn...

Hmm. Usually a familiar face goes better in this sort of situation, and unfamiliar story line to a rather forgotten and unfamiliar character. Though if you keep the "run-of-the-mill" character nameless and description-less, I can really see it going far.
It's easier to do if you write it from the point of view of the actual character, and if you feel the character is too unfamiliar and feel the need to give him/her some sort of back-story, then you can do so by having other characters describe him/her.
Though, I always find it strange writing like that, I prefer going third person with that sort of thing, with a bit of first person for dialog, and even slipping in a little second person into the chatter, just for some fourth wall screwing around, though it's had to not seem ridiculous doing so.

Anyway, First person dialog, while describing things in third person, and it should work. This is usually known as the "Narrative effect" where you narrate everything and the dialog is at the current time, while the narrative tends to focus on the thoughts and actions of the character.
That's how I usually end up writing, though I've gone through some first and third person, along with a lot of second person (as I'm doing now).
So, I'd try first person for a little, see how that works out, and if it doesn't go over well, try some narratives.
I can see this going over really well, but maybe the nameless unicorn doesn't need a name, or even a face?

Hm... Well, it'd be interesting to go without a name, it would definitely keep the reader interested.. But I feel like they 'd be a little disappointed or even angry if there's an anonymous unicorn as a main character... That's something for a really controversial book, not a dopey little fan fiction.

Bah! Who's your targets if they can't take a little suspense, if you really want to tick them off, don't give a definite ending, that's what I love to do.
"How's it end?" "How would I know?" "YOU WROTE THE DAMN THING!"
Anyway, if you do it wrong, then yea, they'll be mad.
Gotta make them either find a connection with it, so they can see him/her more as themselves, or you need to give him/her a small, unidentified background that, while it has no real connection the story, gives you a reason or two for the characters actions, and also sets the overall mood.
Anything in a story should be there for a reason, the color of the leaves on the trees to give a sense of time, the number of clouds to set the mood, the amount of light to further set the mood... You probably, and should, know all this as it's pretty much the basics of story-telling.

As for "Omnipotent" 3rd person, I don't really think a godly effect would fit it at all. It's more a descriptive "narrative" effect, not an all-knowing being telling you what happened... "Omnipotent" is telling it from the "creators" point of view, as god would about a persons life, or a father would about his son.
It'd be an interesting story to read if you could make it work, but I don't really see how it could...

My first builds were demolished by the public land wipe back in 1.7.3.
I tried to re-build, made the castle, house and island, and ended up without a way to log-in for a month, thus all my belongings were looted.
So, instead of staying in an empty hellhole I decided to start over, and so I did, with nothing more than the remaining 2000 credits I had I went out into the ocean and build from nothing but 3 grass blocks and sand, and entire island filled with trees and tall grass.

Busy with work and college, getting things set up, learning to drive all over again (my car is a stick-shift, and I'm use to driving automatics) and ect, ect.
I'm really tired, and sleeping a lot more, though with the amount of sleep (9-12 hours each day) I'm a tad concerned.
So, I'm tired, I'm sore, I'm not having fun anymore and life is becoming less and less entertaining as time goes on.
The good news, though, is that I will be reducing my hours to near 0 hours per week on my 20th birthday (or 8 days after) so I have a month to prepare for school, and then I'm taking another month off to get situated into school. Once I finish both of those, college will be taking up most of my time, so i'll simply work a few hours each week ( 4-8 on weekends) and that'll be that.
So, to top it all off, I'm feeling pretty down, and though I know it's not going to last it's still a pain...

I'm slacking so much more than I used to, I procrastinate, and I make repeated mistakes. They all scare me, but I'm most scared of how much I have ahead of me... I haven't even gotten a fucking job yet...

Slacking, procrastinating? Why fear that? How much do you do each day? How many mistakes could be made? It's possible you've burnt yourself out, it's very possible.
Stress effects your body in many ways, all varying from person to person, some people lose their hair, some people lose their teeth, some people get zits, some people lose eyesight, or health, and some people lose their sanity and sometimes more than one can occur.

As for the future, don't look at it as one big challenge. It's not, trust me. Each challenge is one in and of itself.
A job is important, yeah, but not at your age. You don't NEED a job until one is 18 and college starts, and even then, it's not hard to find a small job to work. Even minimum wage is effecting when you don't live on your own.

Don't look at the future in fear, it's waiting for you with open arms and will lift you higher than you could ever dream. All you need to do is walk into it. Run, and you'll crash and burn, and if you stray from it in fear, you will move forward in nothing but time.
Life works in many ways, there's lots of challenges in this world and a lot of hell to be had. All we can do is take it all one day at a time, and it's a blessing that we can, and you shouldn't forget that, because if all else fails, we are still alive, and as long as we are alive, we have time to make changes where we see fit.
