They named the new character in Legend of Korra "Mako" in honor of the guy who died during the making of the original series.

I dont remember how he was connected to the show, or the details. but that's why.

mako is the name of the original voice actor for iroh. He died half way through the second season so they replaced him and made that episode in honor of him.. .Mako in LOK is named after irohs original voice actor.
