You seem to know a lot about cameras.
Do you know if there's a possiblity of finding a real black and white camera, of the quality they used in like ww2 or the next best thing.
I've had this idea in my head of how cool it would look if there were pictures of modern times and people that lool like they were made 60-70 years ago.

Get yourself a nice 70's auto SLR like the Pentax K1000, Nikon FE or any of the Konica Autoreflex series and start shooting some B/W pictures right away.
The "old-style" noisy, grainy flat images from around the wartime can be replicated by underexspose the film by a couple of stops (say, shoot an ISO 100 film as 400 or 800) and develop the film for a little longer to get more grain. Some may like to add some sepia-style toner, too.
You can develop film yourself with a cheap developing tank that your Grandparants likely owns, a grainy and contrasty mixing developer like Rodinal and some fixer to get the image to stick to the film so it won't be exposed in light again. Read up on analog photography on the blog called "I still shoot film" and the forum www.apug.org where I roam in the 35mm category.
Do you have any experience with SLR's?

Your lens on the camera has some numbers on the aperture; those are called F-stops . They indicate how open the aperture is - if you move one stop up, say from 5.6 to 8, you'll get half as much light onto the film meaning that you have double the film's ISO speed to catch the same exsposure. The really good fast lenses has an f-stop of f/1.2, but most people could live with f/1.8 that is two stops slower.
The third element to complete the triangle is the shutter speed; the amount of time which your shutter is open in. For handheld photography, everything from around 1/30th of a second is used and most mechanical cameras are capable of 1/1000th second. The shutter speed, like the film ISO and aperture, needs to be half or double to make half or double the light hit the film; 1/100th of a second is quite normal to use, and to get one more stop of light you need to get the shutter speed down to 1/50th.
These three elements are key in photography (also in digital) and make some compromises to account for: You'll get more grain with faster film, you'll get a more narrow depth of field (how much can be in focus at once) with faster lenses and you'll get camera shake or blurry photos (if it's action or movement) with slower shutter speeds.

Loss of life in war is always less preferable then keeping peace.

Sometimes when I read horrifying facts about a country like North Korea, the dark, cynical and angry part of me just wishes that they would commit an act of war against the United States, such as bombing them, just so that the US could have a reason to go over there and just completely obliterate the fuck out of them.
#340 - genasi (02/13/2014) [-]
While I agree something has to be done eventually an all-out war may not be the best idea. North Korea has a standing army almost the size of the US and on top of that about 10 times more reserve troops. Literally half their population can be called to service and I wouldn't be suprised if they used the other half as cheap fodder or suicide bombers. If you think Iraqi insurgents are bad wait until every single brainwashed citizen of a nation is out to kill you by all means possible.

nukes hit more than one person at a time. just drop a few on them.

and if you kill all the (forced) soldiers and civilians too, what would change? I think they just would have even more hate and then be open for even more fucked up new dictators who will then be even more radical because of all the suffering that country had. How will this country get the point if someone jsut invades or drops some bombs on it. I just don't see how it would make things better. War is the first thing the usa and many other nations think of but i hope there is a real solution, just needs some smart people i bet
#684 - pappysmurf (02/13/2014) [-]
Your comment is #666 btw and i would just like to point out that is something some people would find hilarious. Its hard to make a joke about that being brutal while discussing slavery and torture.

A german journalist was recently in northkorea. He claimed that he just wanted to do vacation in northkorea. Well he wasn't allowed to be alone at any time in that country so 2 agents from northkorea had to watch over him. The agents pretended to be just his "vacation advisors" or however you call it in english . Well the german journalist quickly found out that the people there simple don't have a choice. It's even illegal to fold newspapers (because you could accidently crease a picture of the leader). The journalist made the agents feel safe because he made them believe that he is just a tourist, the agents then were much more friendly to him. They told him that many things in their country are going wrong. That they have no medicin, barely food and everyone who is not praising the almighty holy leader could get executed/jailed. Also the civilians are getting all brainwashed, they usually are not allowed to communicate in any way with people from other countries.
It's sick and ridiculous. The leader is like a retarded but evil cartoon villain, it must hurt to pretend to praise such a joke of a man and asshole.
sorry for so much text i dont expect anyone to read it but

Nah dude 'Murica didn't go to Iraq for oil, but cause of the terrorists. On a related note, millions upon millions of terrorists have been discovered building camps in north korea. Reports indicate that an unprecedented level of cute puppy kicking is occuring there as we speak!
