so then you would teach your students to drop their body fat percentage as low as possible? my information isnt from random sources. its from health teachers and a sergenat with the same qualification you have.

i never said six packs are bad just having too low of a body fat percentage over a long period of time can be detrimental

"six packs arent always healthy"

You quite literally did...

The fat you are referring to is subcutaneous fat, this is the fat that is visible around the mid section and is what would be "hiding" a sixpack.
As long as this fat percentage does not drop below essential fat levels then a low percentage is not bad. The essential fat levels for a male is 2-5%, this is the figure given by the American Council of Exercise. If you try to argue against these figures, then you are wrong and only belittle your already shitty argument further.

A High performance athlete is expected to have between 6% and 13% body fat. This is not and average, this is a SAFE recommendation from the ACE.

I can't find what the average percentage body fat is for men to see their 6 pack is via my quick google search, but for women it is 11.4% so men will be a hell of a lot higher. This is still well over the safe body fat guide lines as issued by the ACE.

Also, "protecting your organs"? what the hell are you talking about? there may have been a time that a lower body fat percentage meant a lower chance of survival due to internal haemoraging but seeing as we're not at risk of a sabre tooth tiger attack that often you're chatting utter shite. This maybe only applies to boxers.

Also... fyi (final boot to the neck of your argument I promise) the reason that some athletes die young, is because of things like their hearts being too muscular... lack of use means that gets converted to fat and they die of an MI or a CVA or something... not too little fat to protect their organs... jack ass.

well i better gain some weight and fatten up around my vital organs like in my rib cage? (i liked that one, nice.) so i can then die from arterial calcification and suffer from a cardiac arrest. or maybe even high blood presure caused by too much fat round the gut? i can see where youre coming from now. GTFO

your body needs fat for protection and function. staying below 8% is detremental over a period of time
#140 - Womens Study Major (08/04/2013) [-]
Things like that fall under the essential fat catergory, which is 2-5%. This is half of the 8% you claim to be unhealthy.
User avatar #57 - mormonslayer (08/04/2013) [-]
dude, i literally have no idea why youre talking about protection when you would have adequate muscle mass to act as enough protection. and as for proper function, your body is perfectly capable of burning enough fat through the foods you eat rather than storing it above whatever percentage you think. seriously
