You're actual weight has absolutely nothing to do with how healthy you are. A 250-pound linebacker is a shit-ton healthier than a 170-pound couch-potato with a beer belly.

Underweight isn't an issue unless you're not eating healthily to achieve that weight. Fat tissue is used for storing nutrients. If you're eating enough nutrients anyway, you have no need for fat. Famine aside (you don't have much stored energy), there's no reason to be worried about being underweight.

Now, you can be healthier by building muscle (which will increase your weight), of course, because this means your exercising. This is not the same as saying being underweight is unhealthy. It just means you can be healthier.

Being overweight (obese) is unhealthy. It leads to highly increased strain on cardiovascular system, typically leading to heart disease. All the excess nutrients which your body wants to store as fat have to float in your bloodstream longer due to concentration gradients (think of it trying to find room for the fat - the more you have, the longer the search). The longer it floats through your body, the more time it has to get stuck to your veins/arteries and clog them.

TL;DR: Overweight = unhealthy ... Physically fit and active = healthy ... Skinny = Healthy, but you could do better by exercising.
