It'd be a lot for the players to handle, and they make like 100-300 new Pokemons per game and if there's about 3 new games that's about 1400-1700 new Pokemons in a region (Counting Pokemons from previous games). Even though atleast 100-200 of those Pokemons actually appear in wild lands, and the amount of Sprites they'd need FOR the Pokemons (Plus shiny's, female versions, mega-evolutions) the game or 3DS system wouldn't have enough memory to hold all of it in.
Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

I don't know where you're getting these numbers, but no. They usually cap at around 150 new pokemon, tops, usually hovering at 100 (The only games to add 150-ish were gen 1 and gen 5). Let's assume this game goes the full distance -- that means 6th gen will have about 800 pokemon. 3 more generations on top of that would likely place it at around 1100-1250. Meanwhile. the development process takes a lot of time. The last new generation came out a few years ago, at this point. Considering that, it'd be at least another 6-8 years before a ninth generation hits the scene, and given how fast technology improves storing that many 3D models on a cartridge (on a new handheld system by that point, too, because the 3DS would be around 10 years old by that point) would be absolutely no problem.

Huh... I'm thinking about getting a 2Ds after they've been out for awhile, or maybe a used DSi or something. I would love to have a handheld that I can buy current games for again.
I'll have to finish this conversation later. I've got to get some sleep before going into work again. Upside: I get over time all day today. Downside: I'm so fucking tired.

Definitely get the 3DS. 2DS is a second choice. DSi, however, not so much. It won't be able to play any new nintendo handheld titles.
