Austria went to war for it and it was later bought by Liechtenstein nobles.

Well it is true that modern Liechtenstein has no gained any land since it was formed, they did have an army and had fought in battles defending their homeland. And both the Romans and Germanic tribes invaded it at certain points (their ancestors).

Aha but they didn't kill to take their land, the fact that they killed for the defense of their country is a totally different story.

This was fun, we should do it again sometime ^w^

The fact is it is not a country. Greenland does not participate in the UN, just like Puerto Rico or the Falkand Islands. Canada is a country. Sorry, it is still part of Denmark.

Its still part of Denmark. Just like Puerto Rico is part of the US. Sorry Mate. That's why they don't get to participate in the world cup.
User avatar #26 - monorail (11/07/2014) [-]
Top Kek, Denmark had sovereignty over Greenland but the Denmark granted Greenland self-government. So now Greenland is Greenland therefore making it commonwealth. Much like with Canada it being part of the commonwealth which does not make it "part of Britain"
Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the USA btw

Even if Greenland gets its independence, this still wouldn’t be true. Modern Greenlanders are the descendants of the Thule people who migrated there circa 1300. They came into conflict with the much older inhabitants, Paleo-Eskimo peoples. No genes from the palæo-eskimos have been found in the present population of Greenland.
