Eeeeeyup. Dubstep stems from the same qualities I hate in modern music, it is simply the pinnacle of said qualities.

Dancing isn't essential. My point is just that people used to know how to make an entire show out of their performance. Not just standing up on a stage on their high horse while crowds of fans admire them while they play some shitty music.

It just seems to me that this music is limiting our generation in more respects than one. It has no intellectual value. In previous years songs had lyrics that made you think. In my opinion art is different from entertainment or decoration in that it takes the viewer more than a single glance to determine what the point of the art is. The lyrics in songs aid in the sense that it is a musical poem. Derpstep has nothing of the sort. It's just loud noise to please the masses. If you want to innovate, don't please the masses with what they know they like, teach them what to like.

I've heard Rammstein and they're not my favorite but I can respect them wholeheartedly because they put some time and work into their lyrics to mean something, even if the message isn't something I'm into. I can also respect those who listen to it as the majority of people I've met who listen to them are rather level headed individuals.

I have to agree with you that lyrics coupled with music make some incredible poetry. The only slight issue I have with that is when in groups of people, what can you do to "dance" there isn't much to that kind of music to dance to.
