And do I really need to explain what:
Quran (8:39) - "And fight with them until there is no more fitna (disorder, unbelief) and religion should be only for Allah"
Oh well.
Some translations interpret "fitna" as "persecution", but the traditional understanding of this word is not supported by the historical context. The Meccans were simply refusing Muhammad access to their city during Haj. Other Muslims were allowed to travel there - just not as an armed group, since Muhammad had declared war on Mecca prior to his eviction. The Meccans were also acting in defense of their religion, since it was Muhammad's intention to destroy their idols and establish Islam by force (which he later did). Hence the critical part of this verse is to fight until "religion is only for Allah", meaning that the true justification of violence was the unbelief of the opposition. According to the Sira (Ibn Ishaq/Hisham 324) Muhammad further explains that "Allah must have no rivals."

Relax buddy. Every religion has a dark side, but for the most part, Muslims, are a decent people. Radicals make both sides look bad, I mean look at the crusades.

And trust me, I spend a good 4 years of my life being shot at and shooting at people indoctrinated by religion. (In retrospect, a few probably did it for money, or fear of death as well.)

That said, in general, fuck Mohammed. Ya got a point there.

We have a lot of lebanese guys in my neighbourhood. Drug dealing, gang shootings, the like. Relatively common. The fact is, they're not muslim. Most of these punks aren't. It's there interpretation, their choices, Mohammed does not guide them, the same way that no God, Jehovah, or higher power guides me.

People do what they choose to do, there is always choice. I stand to my statement. There's good muslims out there, but there are a lot of bad people out there, me included. We do it. We rape. We kill. We steal. Regardless of religions influences, who ultimately carries out these deeds?

I am interested in your story however. Why are you no longer a muslim? Do you practice any religion now?

There shouldn't be any argument over who the "true Muslim" is because the Quran clearly distinguishes the true Muslim from the pretender in Sura 9 and elsewhere. According to this - one of the last chapters of the Quran - the true believer "strives and fights with their wealth and persons" while the hypocrites are those who "sit at home," refusing to join the jihad against unbelievers in foreign lands.
In truth, Muhammad organized 65 military campaigns in the last ten years of his life and personally led 27 of them. The more power that he attained, the smaller the excuse needed to go to battle, until finally he began attacking tribes merely because they were not yet part of his growing empire.
After Muhammad’s death, his successor immediately went to war with former allied tribes which wanted to go their own way. Abu Bakr called them 'apostates' and slaughtered anyone who did not want to remain Muslim. Eventually, he was successful in holding the empire together through blood and violence.

It's permited in islam to rape and steal from the non-muslims. Our people rape and steal but not as much as the muslims and muslims are in % much worse and take up most of the crime even tho they are a minority. And we don't worship a guy who spent his life raping and stealing and killing.

>Why are you no longer a muslim? Do you practice any religion now?
I'm no longer a muslim because I started to question Islam and the more I learned about it to more cult like it seemed. I'm a neo-pagan now.

After Muhammad died, the people who lived with him and knew his religion best immediately fell into war with each other.
Fatima, Muhammad's favorite daughter, survived the early years among the unbelievers at Mecca safe and sound, yet died of stress from the persecution of fellow Muslims onlysix monthsafter her father died. She even miscarried Muhammad's grandchild after having her ribs broken by the man who became the second caliph.
Fatima's husband Ali, who was the second convert to Islam and was raised like a son to Muhammad, fought a civil war against an army raised by Aisha, Muhammad's favorite wife - and one whom he had said was a "perfect woman." 10,000 Muslims were killed in a single battle waged less than 25 years after Muhammad's death.
Three of the first four Muslim rulers (caliphs) were murdered. All of them were among Muhammad's closest companions. The third caliph was killed by allies of the son of the first (who was murdered by the fifth caliph a few years later, then wrapped in the skin of a dead donkey and burned). The fourth caliph (Ali) was stabbed to death after a bitter dispute with the fifth. The fifth caliph went on to poison one of Muhammad's two favorite grandsons. The other grandson was later beheaded by the sixth caliph.
The infighting and power struggles between Muhammad's family members, closest companions and their children only intensified with time. Within 50 short years of Muhammad's death, even the Kaaba, which had stood for centuries under pagan religion, lay in ruins from internal Muslim war...And that's just the fate of those within the house of Islam!
