I am either conservative liberal or liberal conservative.
And I tend to piss off everyone I talk to.
People want either small weak government or large strong government and I want a small, efficient, strong government.
I believe in freedom to own weapons, I fucking own weapons. But I also believe in gun registration and not giving guns to clinically insane people.
I believe marriage is a legal contract between two sane adults, and that anyone who wants to get married should be legally allowed to. I also believe no one should have a right to force religious people to preform those marriages, there is plenty people who would do it.
I believe in social safety net. But it should be smaller, more efficient and aimed at helping people go back to work, get education to work and never be used as a hammock for lazy people.
I believe that most programs would be better if federal government helped with funding but programs were run locally.
I believe that government should never legislate morality, on either side.
So, to conservatives I'm a liberal pussy and to liberals I'm a conservative fashist.
User avatar #61 - saltcat (03/04/2014) [-]
Thank you for voicing this - modern society has a bad habit of polarizing people along party lines. Every issue isn't black and white, and I often feel that the best option is somewhere in between.

You seem like a reasonable individual, and I'd be interested in hearing some more of your opinions on major issues.

How about alternative energy? Personally, I feel the US should set a realistic long-term goal for transitioning to renewable energy, but in the short-term I feel we should take advantage of the fuel reserves we have in our own country.

Anyhow, thanks for not being a die-hard liberal or conservative - have your own opinions independent of party lines - if more people thought like that it just might be possible to get things headed in the right direction again.
#80 - angelusprimus (03/05/2014) [-]
I believe that we need to transition to alternative energies slowly and sanely. We should be phasing out coal with help of natural gas, we should be building more nuclear because one nuklear plant can cover 100 coal plants and damage is just smaller. We should increase funding for fusion. and we should keep building up distributed solar and new wind farms.
not make some big ultra "back to nature change" but keep transitioning slowly and not fight it. Because we either transition slowly now, or we do it quickly and painfully in 20 years.

I had this idea about food stamps, instead of giving the people cash they could get like a debit card in which the welfare would be loaded on every month, and they can only use the cards in certain stores ( food stores, gas stations, clothing stores ect) and not strip clubs, or best buy or anything like that. But then comes the problem of telling people where they can and can't shop and shit like that.
User avatar #51 - majordraco (03/04/2014) [-]
In California that's already a thing, but they also let them get money out at strip clubs and fast food places, also usually I see them use the card to buy food even I can't afford.

I used to be on food stamps and get TANF and the number of abuses I have personally seen is sickening.
User avatar #29 - quantumsheep (03/04/2014) [-]
speaking as a liberal, that all sounds pretty great to me

i'm not sure what about that is conservative, honestly
User avatar #48 - majordraco (03/04/2014) [-]
There are many liberals who want to force religious institutions to perform ceremonies against their religion.
User avatar #49 - quantumsheep (03/04/2014) [-]
yes, i'm aware, that sucks

i'm not one of them

i think that's pretty extreme "liberal" stance, honestly, i wouldn't consider it liberal at all
#44 - anonymous (03/04/2014) [-]
Guns? Finding a middle ground with theists instead of hating them?

Just because you hate republicans doesn't mean you should believe all the lies.
User avatar #50 - legitlolz (03/04/2014) [-]
Woah there buddy. Slow the fuck down. Outside of MSNBC's liberal circle jerk, most of us couldn't give a flying fuck if people own guns. Sure, we'd feel more comfortable if no one owned a gun that could wipe out the population of a small town in 5-10 mins, but that doesn't mean we don't like guns. And as far as the whole "Liberals hate Theists" argument goes, we don't. We hate bigots who are too wrapped up in their own self-righteousness and sheep mentality that they can't accept gay marriage.

And, for the record, I've never met a liberal, personally, who hates Republicans. People who hate assholes like Limbaugh, Beck, and O'Riely (or however you spell it) and most of FOX news? Sure, but most of them also dislike MSNBC's wholly unfair programming too.

tldr; Don't be such a generalizing faggot.

P.S: I do think that the Tea party is the worst thing to ever happen to the Republican Party. They are the epitome of all of the things I, and many Liberals like me, can't stand, and are just horrible publicity for the party as a whole. Sorry to all the actual Republicans who are reasonable people. I feel your pain.
User avatar #45 - quantumsheep (03/04/2014) [-]
huh?

i don't hate republicans

and i consider being "against" gun ownership and religious beliefs to be pretty extreme and stupid

i'm not sure what lies i'm buying into, here

User avatar #15 - animalsslamina (03/04/2014) [-]
I have distrust of both extremes. I more readily identify with conservatives on issues like "gun control" <enter doom music, cry audibly because no common sense to be found>, because i'm an outdoorsman and i hunt and fish. Other "issues" like gay marriage, i could really not care less about, so I tend to be a bit on the neutral side of things- i agree that they should have the right, though. I just wish I wasn't stuck choosing the least smelly of two rotten assholes every four years. There should be a NOPE option, where they have to present two new candidates, one from each party.
User avatar #8 - majordraco (03/04/2014) [-]
I self identify as a conservative libertarian, but am registered republican.

I think anyone who totes the party line because hur dur it's my party, should lose the right to vote.
#10 - anonymous (03/04/2014) [-]
I identify as a person with many various standpoints based off of logic rather than political party.

Apparently I'm too 'flip-floppity' for politics.
User avatar #47 - majordraco (03/04/2014) [-]
I have changed my positions as I grow, but the stances I do take I am very principled about, I am a politics junkie.

But basically before I take any stance on any issue I have to hear out both arguments, basically I think if you can't make a valid argument for the opposition's viewpoint, you shouldn't have your own stance.

For example, if you have position A, but don't know why any one supports position B, and cannot make a valid argument for position B, then you should not take the position A.

It's really the only way to know that you are informed about both sides of any topic.
User avatar #19 - nucularwar (03/04/2014) [-]
If you're that "flip-floppity" you'd go GREAT in politics
