There are bad people out there, that will never change. You will never have a completely peaceful nation.
Also, a fist fight might be less deadly, depending on the person. My 90 year old grandma would probably be killed by a single punch. But with a CC? She could actually have a chance to defend herself.
#87 - ninheldin (06/30/2014) [-]
If your 90 year old grandma could be killed by a single punch she could also be killed by the recoil from her own gun.
User avatar #88 - drldrl (06/30/2014) [-]
You do know the average guy can throw a punch harder than the kick from small caliber guns, right?
Might hurt her arm a bit, but I'm sure granny can do it.
#91 - ninheldin (06/30/2014) [-]
The average person is also not 90 years old and wouldn't die from a single punch
User avatar #92 - drldrl (06/30/2014) [-]
But there are people like that, and getting rid of CC leaves them with NO way of defending themselves.

you are right we will never get entirely rid of violence. but i think i can get a more peacefull nation. and offcores a guy would beat an old woman to death is despicable, but if they were both armed instead, they would just shoot one and eachother one of them would probably die, and i think the robber will be the lucky one most of the time. and i think most people would just run past her taking her bag and then be off if noone had a gun. with the sadistic psycopaths as an exception.

Your english is fine, I can understand what you mean.

But yes you are naive. First and foremost, that's the only situation you can see a gun saving someones life? What about home invasions? A large portion of these are stopped or at the very least deterred because of firearms. It also doesn't have to be just saving a life, many muggings, rapes, robberies, etc. are stopped because of firearms. Would you prefer these happened otherwise? Because that woman who shot her would be-rapist probably doesn't agree with you.

If you are also asking me to have sympathy for someone who commits a crime and is then killed by a firearm, then I'm sorry but I don't. Do I disagree with rash decisions made by gun owners? Absolutely, and I feel the law should deal with them accordingly as well.

I can't agree that there would be less deaths. Maybe less gun/giant knife deaths, sure. But murder rates would probably rise or stay stagnate. Generally if guns are banned you wouldn't see a high rise/drop in murder rates, but a high increase in other crimes such as robberies, muggings, rapes, GTA, etc. because of the loss of that protection/deterrent.

People will kill with anything if they have that goal in mind.
So let people have the ability to defend themselves.
User avatar #170 - wallbuilder (06/30/2014) [-]
Did you hear about that guy who killed 16 people with a knife?
Me neither.
User avatar #190 - tangentialrex (06/30/2014) [-]
Oh, no, of course not.

There were 10 assailants.
And now, lets compare the number of mass shootings to the number of mass stabbings.
User avatar #201 - tangentialrex (06/30/2014) [-]
Okay.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mass_stabbing

And before we start again, we should probably consider this:

User avatar #212 - wallbuilder (06/30/2014) [-]
Okay, considering that we're talking about America here, try mass stabbings in America.
User avatar #341 - noblexfenrir (07/01/2014) [-]
It's kind of cute how your only comparing mass stabbings and mass shootings. Violent crime rate comparisons, deterred crimes, increase in all other forms of violent attacks (stabbings, bludgeoning, etc.) when guns are heavily regulated, number of guns involved that are illegal/stolen/etc., mean absolutely nothing to you apparently, just what shows up on the news eh?

If you think you made the amazing discovery that when there are less guns in an area, there are less gun deaths, then I applaud you for coming to a realization many statisticians assumed decades ago.
User avatar #342 - wallbuilder (07/01/2014) [-]
Yeah, true, should be paying attention to all non-gun weapons. I was mostly trying to make a point that it's six point eight fucktons easier to kill a lot of people with a gun than any other weapon(excluding bombs, obviously).
User avatar #343 - noblexfenrir (07/01/2014) [-]
Well ofcourse people are going to choose the easiest way to achieve their goal. If someone couldn't get ahold of a gun, I'm sure they would attempt to get a bomb. If they were unable to, and still desired to cause damage then I would think a knife would be their next choice.

The fact is, if you specifically refer to "Mass shootings" you can't compare the entire US to individual countries, the population differences are just ridiculous. (Then you even have to differentiate what a mass shooting is, since most people who make these lists apply rules like a specific bodycount that causes a large portion of Europes shootings to be discarded because 1 person too few died.)

Then as I said, you have to also compare these to other crime rates. While Europe has a lower average gun death rate, their levels of violent crimes such as muggings, rapes, and robberies dwarf the US' rates.

You are right, but a fist fight is still less lethal than a gunfight. you might get badly hurt, but your chances are stiller better that if you get shoot.

alot of people walks around with weapons because they are scared of the possibility of meating a armed robber or other people looking for a fight. offcores they are i know no one who would not be. but is it really a utopia to want a country where you are not afraid of leaving your own frontdoor?

If a single life can be saved by a gun, would that be enough reason to give up the selfish goal of banning firearms?
#55 - mitouri (06/30/2014) [-]
You are right it's a selfish goal, hav not thought of it like that. but i do beleave that the only situration where a pistol can save a life is if some is fighting unarmed or with a tiny kniff, and a third person comes in to the picture with the magic boom stick. otherwise it will just be used. it might turn the table, but some times the pistol will go off, and you will have another victem, he might have been a bad guy, but his life is still a life, and there is probably someone who cares about him who also get's hurt by the bullet. You can call me naive but i really think that if you remove the gun (and giant ass knifes for that sake) from the equation, there would be less deaths all around.

sorry for the bad english
