I would definitely suggest getting a cheap little set of pins. You can probably find a set for 10-15$. They'll be light and plasticy, but they'll teach you the pattern. I started with a nice quality heavy set of rubber ended pins, and my toes and fingers were constantly bruised from them for a couple weeks.
Start with 1 pin though. The spin has to be near perfect every throw when you start.

I started with really light weight fabric. It wouldn't bounce away when I dropped them and they fell really slowly.

awh yis the contact staff. i have a group of hippy friends that are all in to the flow arts. contact jugglin, contact staff, hula hoops, poi, that sorta stuff. how long did it take you to move from balls to pins?
#510 - mitosis (02/19/2015) [-]
it took me forever to get from scarves to balls. Though the conversion from balls to pins took about 3 weeks for like an hour of practice a day before it became fluid. Now its actually easier to juggle pins than balls. Feels better too.

Are you a juggler? I made these bad boys at work for fire juggling.
#508 - mitosis (02/19/2015) [-]
Yep! Been juggling since Elementary school off and on. I just have a simple fire pin set with Kevlar tips. I moved on from juggling pins to juggling knives, to using something called a Contact Staff. Search it on youtube, its actually a lot of fun. My sister got me one for my birthday a year ago.

#125 - mitosis (02/16/2015) [-]
Washing hands is a given anywhere in the world.
Gloves is just an added layer of safety. It's ultimately up to the Chef (and state laws), but why wouldn't you wear gloves? No matter how much you wash your hands, there's always going to be traces of bacteria at the knuckles/under the fingernails. Gloves can just reduce that even more.
The cleaner the kitchen and staff are, the cleaner the food is when it comes out. If you're too lazy to cook as clean as possible, you're going to have problems in the future, and you obviously don't take your career seriously. Just super saiyan.
