Im sure that what his employer did was illegal, but there are not a lot of ways for single employees to retaliate, these things usually end up getting settled in class-action lawsuits where tens if not hundreds of employees have to band together to actually be able to take their employers to court, and the employers will end up settling and paying each of their employees a small sum.

For example my brother works at outback steakhouse and they were refusing to give servers breaks during busy hours, he ended up getting a check for 800 bucks because a few dozen employees sued the company

Totally legal here in Texas.
Texas law only requires the breaks required by the federal government. And there is only one kind of break that is protected by federal law: and that's for breast-feeding mothers to breast-feed their children. That's it.
I worked at a bar for a few years. I'd clock in at 630, and I'd clock out around 430. No lunch breaks, and the only time you got a "sit down and relax" break was if you could convince management you needed your smoke or if you could just hide from them.

In Canada you cannot be denied a 1/2 hour break if you are scheduled for 6 or more hours.
But you are allowed to not take one if you so please, and there is an unspoken understanding in the kitchen that it is dickish to ask for a 1/2 hour when it is really busy.

In america, or at least california, as labor laws vary greatly from state to state, you must be given a 10 minute break every 4 hours and a 30 minute break if your shift is 6 or more hours

Eat boiled rice for some time. Avoid fried food (especially foods that contain fried meat and fried onions). Go to your supermarket and buy baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), and mix one flat teaspoon in glass of water (tastes horribly, but it will instantly bring relief). Avoid flour products (like white bread and pastries). And most importantly, avoid sodas.

What typically sets off acid reflux is typically acidic, caffeinated, or fatty foods. For instance, the iced tea you drink is caffeinated. Meat tends to be pretty high in fat which sets off acid reflux, and I guess the same applies to noodles. Root vegetables like garlic and onions increase stomach acidity as well as slow down the emptying of the stomach. However, people have said that garlic can help with acid reflux if you prepare it right such as by crushing it or blending it with other vegetables.
